SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Ally Winnen, Texas A&M International, continued her fantastic start to her Dustdevil career averaging 25.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for TAMIU. In Friday's 78-64 win over Angelo State, Winnen scored 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds and 8 blocks. In Saturday's 75-72 win over the Rambelles, Winnen went 12-15 from the field to finish with 28 points and 7 rebounds.
Maighan Hedge, Cameron, continued to prove why she is one of the top all-around players in the LSC this weekend against Texas Woman’s. The junior guard opened the week by falling one rebound short of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds during the matchup in Denton. Hedge made a quartet of triples and added four assists and three steals on the defensive end. At home, she upped that performance by going for a season-best 28 points on 10-18 shooting from the field. Hedge made three more triples on Saturday and added six assists, three boards, and two more steals. She was also a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line for the two-game series and upped her career point total to 1,260, which moves her up to ninth on the CU all-time scoring list.
Maddison Collyer Ingraham, Oklahoma Christian, had perhaps the finest week of her career to lead Oklahoma Christian to two wins that sealed a bid in the LSC Championship. She played all 40 minutes in a 69-67 win over Angelo State on Monday, scoring a career-high 24 points to go with nine rebounds and four assists. She scored all of the Lady Eagles' points during the final nine minutes before teammate Tyra Peck's buzzer-beating 3-point winner. She nearly was the hero in a 71-70 loss to St. Mary’s on Friday, as she scored a career-high 25 points to go with seven assists and four rebounds and made two clutch free throws with 2.1 seconds left to give OC a 70-69 lead. She led OC to a 64-53 win in Saturday’s rematch against the Rattlers, again leading her team with 17 points, six assists and four steals.
Hannah Wilson, St. Mary’s, notched career-highs in scoring in back-to-back games, scoring 22 in the 70-66 win at St. Edward's and 23 in the 71-70 comeback win at Oklahoma Christian. In that game, Wilson hit a 15-foot hook shot with 0.7 seconds left to claim the victory. Wilson recorded a double-double in all three games of the week - and now has seven straight games with double figures in points and rebounds. In the regular-season finale, Wilson scored 14 points - including a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. She also shot .535 for the week, 50 points above her season average.
Allie Schulte, Lubbock Christian, helped LCU accomplish the NCAA Division II women's basketball record for consecutive home wins (88) and their second straight LSC Championship, as they had a 2-0 mark on the week behind Schulte's 17.0 points per game. She matched a career high with 21 points against West Texas A&M Thursday. While WT went a span of nine minutes without a field goal, Schulte swept in and hit five straight shot attempts. All of Schulte's 21 points came in the middle quarters (she had 10 points in the second quarter and 11 in the third quarter). Saturday, she followed with 13 points and 4 steals in LCU's win at West Texas A&m for the program's first-ever win in Canyon.
Jayde Tschritter, Texas A&M-Kingsville, was pivotal in securing the first .500 league record in over a decade for the Javelinas over the weekend as she led the team with a 14.0 scoring average and a red-hot .474 clip from beyond the arc. She was the team-high scorer in both games as she put away 10 in a nail-biting 54-52 win over UT Tyler on Wednesday and followed up with a season-high 18 points in Saturday's 70-51 rematch while she shot 6-10 from beyond the arc.
Anastacia Mickens, Texas A&M-Kingsville, paced the Javelinas on defense in a sweep of UT Tyler to close out the regular season as she led the team with an 8.0 rebounding average across two games while pocketing three steals. She posted 10 points and nine rebounds in Wednesday's win over the Patriots and followed up with another seven rebounds in Saturday's rematch as the defensive effort from TAMUK held UTT to .322 from the field, including a .288 clip (17-59) in Saturday's contest which was the second-lowest total allowed by the Blue and Gold all season.
Brooklin Bain, Oklahoma Christian, was a rebounding fiend as Oklahoma Christian recorded two wins to secure a berth in the LSC Championship. She had seven rebounds to go with 14 points in a 69-67 win over Angelo State on Monday, then recorded a pair of double-doubles against St. Mary’s. In a 71-70 loss on Friday, Bain had 15 points, 11 rebounds and two steals, and in a 64-53 win on Saturday, she had 14 points and 11 rebounds against the Rattlers’ taller frontline.
Nicole Heyn, Texas A&M International, finished the regular season securing back-to-back double-doubles in the two Dustdevil wins over Angelo State. In Friday's 78-64 victory, Heyn scored 10 points but collected 12 rebounds (2 offensive, 10 defensive). She also added five assists to go with three steals. In the second game, Heyn scored 25 points, matching the program record with 7 three-pointers made. She also secured a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with three steals.
Logan Collyer, Cameron, has been the unsung hero of the Aggies 2020-21 season and she made her presence known this week against Texas Woman’s. The senior from Harrah, Okla., recorded a pair of steals and had seven points in the series opener in Denton, Texas. She made a pair of triples in the first half and played stellar defense on the perimeter, helping Cameron hold the Pioneers to just a 21.1 shooting percentage from long range. Collyer followed that up with a five steal performance in the home win over TWU. She added four points on the offensive end and once again helped the Aggies hold their opponent to an under 30 shooting percentage from long range.
DesiRay Kernal, Texas A&M-Commerce, had a stellar all-round performance in the Lions' 110-81 win over Midwestern State, which clinched A&M-Commerce's second straight LSC North Division Championship. Defensively, she recorded five steals and two blocks, while also scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Kernal finished the season ranked fourth in the LSC in scoring (16.1), eighth in rebounding (6.8), seventh in free throw percentage (.818), and 13th in steals (2.1).
Mandy Withey, Midwestern State, helped Midwestern State clinch a Lone Star Conference postseason spot with her performances against UT Permian Basin. The forward shot .400 percent from the field, going 6-15. She was perfect on three-pointers and 50% from the line. On defense, Withey led the Mustangs in rebounding with 13 (6 offensive, 7 defensive) on Thursday and 6 (1 offensive and 5 defensive) on Saturday. The sophomore sits third on the team in rebounds for the year (72) and totals 6.0 per game, which is second best for MSU. In the last two games, she averaged 9.5 rebounds, 0.5 steals, and 7 points.
