Texas A&M-Commerce saved its best round for the final day to move up three spots and win the 2021 South Central/West Super Regional title for the first time and advance to the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships.
The Lions shot a 54-hole total of 874 (292-294-288), winning by five strokes over host institution St. Martin's (879). The other two national qualifying teams were Sonoma State (880) and Colorado State-Pueblo (882).
Zach Burch and Nathan McCulloch led the team with top five individual finishes. Burch was the individual runner-up at 4-under par 212 (73-69-70), while McCulloch placed fourth with a 54-hole total of 214 (71-72-71, -2).
For the tournament, the Lions led the field in scoring on par threes and par fives.
A&M-Commerce advances to the DII finals May 17-21 at PGA National Resort; The Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
The Lion men join the TAMUC women in qualifying for the finals and become just the second Lone Star Conference school to send both teams to the golf national championships in the same season (Northeastern State, 2004).
Oklahoma Christian finished sixth (884), Western New Mexico seventh (888), DBU ninth (895), St. Mary’s tied for 10th (898), and Midwestern State 12th (901).
