LSC Cross Country Top Times - As of 9/22/21 (PDF)
Two Lone Star Conference cross country teams came away with team titles as St. Edward’s recorded victories in both the men’s and women’s races at the OLLU Westside Classic in San Antonio, Texas. DBU’s women’s team, UT Permian Basin’s men’s team and Eastern New Mexico’s women’s team took home top-three team finishes.

RUNNERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Erik Flores, UT Permian Basin, SO, Petroleum Engineering, Hagerman, N.M., Hagerman HS
Flores broke his own 8-kilometer UTPB men’s cross country record, running his way to victory at the ACU Naimadu Classic in Abilene, Texas. The sophomore ran a 24:47.6, averaging 4:59.2 per mile while helping the Falcons to a second-place team finish in the event behind Division I Abilene Christian.
WOMEN’S
Florance Uwajeneza, West Texas A&M, JR, Nursing, St. Paul, Minn., Como Park HS
Uwajeneza remained undefeated on the cross country course this season as the junior won the Missouri Southern Stampede with one of the fastest performances in recent history at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course. The junior covered the 5-kilometer course in 16:43.6, making her the first NCAA DII runner to go under 17 minutes in Joplin, Mo. since DBU’s Kelsey Bruce in 2015.

MEN’S
Hector Sanchez, UT Permian Basin, FR, Kinesiology, El Paso, Texas, Americas HS
Sanchez placed third at the ACU Naimadu Classic in Abilene, Texas. He posted a time of 25:02.9 in the 8-kilometer race. Sanchez was the fastest freshman in the field and helped the Falcons to a second-place team finish behind Division I Abilene Christian.
WOMEN’S
Emme O'Donnell, DBU, FR, Biology, Port Lavaca, Texas, Calhoun HS
O'Donnell placed 22nd in a field of 252 competitors that included four nationally-ranked programs at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday in Joplin, Mo. O'Donnell registered a season-best time of 17:52.7 in the 5-kilometer event and averaged 5:45.2 per mile. The freshman’s performance led DBU to a third-place team finish.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Kelvin Kipkemboi, Eastern New Mexico, finished 2nd at the ACU Naimadu Classic on an 8K course with a time of 24:56.7. Kipkemboi finished 2nd in a field of runners that featured Division I competitors and was the second-fastest LSC runner at the meet.
Adam Whitehead, DBU, posted a 22nd place finish in a field of 251 runners at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Missouri, on Saturday. Whitehead clocked a career-best time of 25:24.3 in the 8K event and averaged 5:06.6 per mile to record the top finish for the Patriots.
Colten Brown, Oklahoma Christian, placed 64th in a 187-man field in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., covering the 8,000 meters on the challenging OSU Cross Country Course in 25:28.2. Brown passed 34 runners between the 5,000-meter and 7,000-meter marks of the race.
Angel Contreras, UT Tyler, led the UT Tyler men's team to a 16th place finish in the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday morning. Contreras ran the 8K event in a time of 25:35.1 to place 27th overall in the race. Out of the LSC runners in the race, only one managed to eclipse Contreras in the race. The time from Contreras is his fastest in the two competitions the Patriots have competed in this season.
Noah Bundrock, West Texas A&M, was the top finisher for the Buffs at Saturday's Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. He was one of three runners to represent WT at one of the premier NCAA Division II meets in the country, covering the 8,000-meter course in 25:37.8.
Alex Speer, Texas A&M-Commerce, finished as the Lions' top runner at the Southern Stampede, competing against a field comprised of Division I and II runners. Speer clocked in a time of 25:39.3 in the 8-kilometer, his second fastest of this year.
Malvin Boen, Texas A&M International, opened the season for the Dustdevils in victorious fashion, leading the pack at the West Side Classic 8-kilometer race, hosted by Our Lady of the Lake. Boen completed the meet with a time of 26:40.0, a 22.9-second edge over the second-place runner. He finished the meet with an average mile time of 5:21.9
Dylan Sequeira, St. Edward's, was the top finisher for the Hilltoppers as SEU won their first team title of the season. He finished second overall with a time of 27:02.0, averaging 5:26.5 per mile, in the 8-kilometer race.
Aminata Kenyawani, Eastern New Mexico, finished 7th at the ACU Naimadu Classic, on the 6.2k course, with a time of 23.19.6. Kenyawani was the fastest LSC runner at the ACU Naimadu Classic and the fastest runner representing a Division II school at the meet.
Kenya Bailey, Oklahoma Christian, posted a top-50 finish against a field comprised mostly of NCAA Division I runners in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday morning. Thirteen of the 16 teams in the race represented Division I programs, with a handful of those squads ranked in the top 25. Eight days after recording her first collegiate win in the Aggie Duels in Lawton, Bailey finished 46th in the 154-woman field at OSU, covering the 6,000-meter course in 22:57.5 – only about 15 seconds off her personal-best time at that distance. Bailey steadily moved up in the field throughout the race.
Natasha Carcano, UT Tyler, led the Patriots to a 24th place finish in the Missouri Southern Stampede. Carcano ran a time of 19:12.12 to finish in 95th place on the day, a new personal best. Her performance marked the second consecutive meet where she led the Patriots.
Faith Brothers, St. Edward’s, posted her first career race win, bringing home first place at the OLLU Westside Invitational and leading the Hilltoppers to a team win. Brothers posted a time of 23:55.4 in the 6-kilometer race, averaging 6:25 per mile. She was 15.1 seconds faster than her closest competitor.
Bobby Hughey, Angelo State, tallied a 28:07.1 time in the 8k this past weekend at the ACU Naimadu Classic in Abilene, Texas. He had an average mile time of 5:39.4, finishing in 43rd place in the race.
Cody Fountain, Texas A&M-Kingsville, was the top finisher for the Javelinas in back-to-back events after pacing his way to an 8k time of 28:46.8 at Pearsall Park in San Antonio, with the newcomer finishing 25th overall at the Westside classic.
Faith Koskei, Angelo State, finished 18th in the field of 85 runners last weekend at the ACU Naimadu Classic. She finished with a team best time of 24:06.8 in their 6.2-kilometer race , with an average mile time of 6:11. Her finish helped the Belles to a 6th place finish.
Calista Segura, UT Tyler, finished in 107th at the Missouri Southern Stampede for UT Tyler. Segura was the top freshman on the team with a time of 19:27.4 in the 5-kilometer event, a new personal best. Segura has been the top freshman for the Patriots in both events they have run as a team this season.
Maggie Rittmeyer, St. Edward’s, posted a time of 24:29.3 as the third-highest finisher for SEU, finishing in sixth place overall at the OLLU Westside Invitational. Rittmeyer and the Hilltoppers won their first team title in the eight-team race. Her average mile time was 6:34.1.
Madison Coskey, Oklahoma Christian, moved up a spot in the OC lineup during the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla. Competing against a field in which 13 of the 16 teams were NCAA Division I squads, Coskey covered the difficult 6,000-meter OSU course in 25:31.0, good for a 118th-place individual finish in a 154-woman field.
Odette Fernandez, Texas A&M-Kingsville, clocked in at 25:57.1 in the 6k at the Westside Classic in San Antonio, with the first-year Javelina placing 18th at Pearsall Park. This marks back-to-back events in which Fernandez was TAMUK's top runner, as she led the team to a fifth-place finish.
