LSC Cross Country Weekly Release - Week 5

LSC Cross Country Top Times - As of 10/5/22 (PDF)

Four Lone Star Conference cross country teams recorded top three finishes over the last week, including DBU’s No. 27-ranked women’s team which landed in third in the loaded Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival. Angelo State’s men’s and women’s teams and St. Edward’s women’s team also earned top three finishes.

Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships
The 2022 LSC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are slated for Saturday, November 5, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the River Creek Golf Course hosted by Midwestern State. The championships will consist of an 8-kilometer race for the men at 9:30 a.m. CT, followed by the women's 6-kilometer race at 10:30 a.m. CT For more information, visit LSC Cross Country Championships Central.
 
RUNNERS OF THE WEEK 
MEN'S
Innocent Murwanashyaka, West Texas A&M, SR, Criminal Justice, St. Paul, Minn., Como Park Senior HS
In a field of 301 runners, senior Innocent Murwanashyaka was the top-placed performer for a Buffs team that finished 16th overall at the Live in Lou Classic. The St. Paul, Minn. product averaged 4:52 a mile to pace WT, completing the 8-kilometer race in 24:13.0 to place 41st in a field loaded with Division I and nationally ranked Division II programs.
 
WOMEN'S
Madison Brown, DBU, SR, Biology, Round Rock, Texas, Round Rock Christian Academy
Brown helped lead the Lady Patriots to a third-place finish at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after crossing the finish line in 10th place out of a field of 275 runners. The senior clocked a career-best 5-kilometer time of 16:47.5 and was the fastest Division II runner, competing with some of the best female runners Division I has to offer.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MEN'S
Drew McLaughlin, DBU, FR, Marketing, Denton, Texas, Denton HS
McLaughlin posted a season-best time of 25:20.2 in the 8-kilometer event at Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas. McLaughlin placed 105th in a field of 355 runners and averaged a time of 5:05.8 per mile to earn DBU's third-best finish in the race.
 
WOMEN'S
Gracey Lovato, Western New Mexico, FR, Nursing, Rio Rancho, N.M., Rio Rancho HS
Lovato helped lead the Mustangs to a sixth-place finish while breaking the Mustangs' 5-kilometer program record with a time of 18:29.7 at the Chile Pepper Festival. Lovato was the first freshman to finish the race among all divisions in the open race.
