DBU's Noah Metzger and Madison Brown were named the 2022 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Academic Runners of the Year as the league announced the all-academic honors on Monday.

    Metzger and Brown were among 10 runners recognized for their work on the course and in the classroom as members of the 2022 LSC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The All-Academic teams are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

    Metzger, a redshirt senior from McKinney, Texas, was named the 2022 LSC Men's Academic Runner of the Year and posted a 3.83 cumulative grade point average as a Theological Studies masters student at DBU. He took home the individual title at the DBU Orville Rogers XC Opener to open the season and recorded a second top-five finish at the Old Glory Gallup in October. Metzger finished in 11th at the LSC Cross Country Championships with a time of 25:31.8 as the Patriots earned second place.

    The redshirt senior was joined on the men’s team by Angelo State's Emmanuel Serna, Cameron’s Jake Cousineau, St. Edward's Nicholas Gonzalez and West Texas A&M’s Innocent Murwanashyaka.

    Brown, a senior from Round Rock, Texas, garnered LSC Women's Academic Runner of the Year honors after accumulating a 3.77 cumulative grade point average as a biology major at DBU. One of the top runners in the conference, Brown won two meets and finished inside the top five in two more, including the LSC championships, where she earned second place with a time of 21:09.6.

    Brown led the women's all-academic team, which includes teammates Emme O'Donnell and Rylee Cristan, Lubbock Christian's Hailey Lowery and UT Tyler's Marissa Agee.
