LSC Cross Country All-Conference awards announced

The Lone Star Conference announced the league's annual cross country all-conference awards on Monday, recognizing 32 student-athletes and two head coaches.

The announcement of the all-conference awards comes following the 2022 LSC Cross Country Championships, where West Texas A&M claimed its 10th consecutive men's cross country title and DBU earned its third women's championship in a row.

All-conference distinction is given to runners who finish among the top 15 individually at the conference meet. Additional awards are presented for Newcomer, Freshman and Coach of the Year in both men's and women's cross country. The Coach of the Year award is given to one head coach for each gender based on a vote of the league's cross country head coaches.

Western New Mexico's Elias Perez and St. Edward's Faith Loftus earned Newcomer of the Year honors. Perez finished 5th at the conference championships with a time of 25:12.1, leading the Mustangs to a fourth-place finish. Loftus helped the Hilltoppers clinch fourth place in the women's title, finishing 27th overall with a time of 23:48.7.

LSC Freshman of the Year acclaim went to Western New Mexico's Rowan Flores on the men's side after the El Paso native finished 25th in Wichita Falls, with a time of 26:11.6. First-year Oklahoma Christian runner Caroline Karr received top freshman honors, earning sixth-place in a time of 22:28.8 to lead the Eagles to a podium finish in third.

WT's Zach Daniel earned the LSC Men's Coach of the Year award in his first season after leading the Buffs to another men's championship with a score of 28. DBU's Jacob Phillips picked up his third-consecutive LSC Women's Coach of the Year honor after leading the Patriots to their third conference title with a score of 33.
