LSC Cross Country Weekly Release - Week 4

LSC Cross Country Top Times - As of 9/28/22 (PDF)

Four Lone Star Conference cross country teams recorded top three finishes over the last week, including Eastern New Mexico's women's team, who took home the top spot at the New Mexico Highlands XC Jam. Lubbock Christian's men and women finished second in the NMJC Cross Country Invite, and St. Edward's women's team took second-place honors at the Concordia Classic.

RUNNERS OF THE WEEK 
MEN'S
Kiernan Work, St. Edward’s, JR, Undecided, Georgetown, Texas, Georgetown HS
Work led the Hilltoppers to a fourth-place finish in a field of 15 teams at the Concordia Cross Country Classic last week. The junior crossed the line in seventh place with a time of 24:03.0 in the 7.3-kilometer race. His 5:18.1 average mile time placed him inside the top 10 for the first time in his collegiate career.
 
WOMEN'S
Madelyn Merrell, Lubbock Christian, JR, Biology, Idalou, Texas, Idalou HS
Merrell recorded her second top-20 finish of the season, setting a new personal best in the 5k at the NMJC Invitational on September 23. Merrell finished second in the 5-kilometer race, the highest of her career, with a time of 19:13.1. That mark easily surpassed her former personal best of 19:36.0 at the 2021 South Central Regional meet by almost 23 seconds. Merrell finished in the top 20 in five of her last eight races, with three podium finishes at the 2021 Division II Preview and the 2021 NMJC Invitational.

Rivera placed second at the Concordia Cross Country Classic with a time of 21:30.7 in the 5.5-kilometer race to lift the Hilltoppers to second place overall. The first-year runner from El Paso beat 106 other competitors to earn a spot on the podium in her first collegiate race.
