LSC Cross Country Weekly Release - Week 1

LSC Cross Country Top Times - As of 9/7/22 (PDF)

Four Lone Star Conference teams took home team titles in the first week of the season. The 23rd-ranked West Texas A&M men, No. 19 DBU women, DBU men and Oklahoma Christian women started the 2022 season with victories. Four other teams secured top three team finishes during the opening week.

RUNNERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Innocent Murwanashyaka, West Texas A&M, SR, Criminal Justice, St. Paul, Minn., Como Park Senior HS
Murwanashyaka led the Buffs to a season-opening victory as No. 23 WT claimed the Big Country Festival team title. Murwanashyaka was the top Division II runner as the senior ran a personal-best 18:39.6, finishing behind Tarleton State's Kevin Baez and Texas Tech's Isaac Hernandez. The St. Paul, Minn. product averaged 5:00.3 a mile to finish third on the 6-kilometer course.
 
WOMEN’S
Florance Uwajeneza, West Texas A&M, SR, Nursing, St. Paul, Minn., Como Park Senior HS
Uwajeneza led WT to a 2nd-place finish at the Big Country Festival, with the Lady Buffs just three points behind TCU. She was the top Division II performer as the All-American was just one-of-three runners to finish the 4-kilometer course in under 14 minutes. She ran a 13:50.7 to set a new personal best at that distance, finishing behind only Abilene Christian's Irene Rono.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Noah Joy, DBU, FR, Finance, Humble, Texas, Atascocita HS
Joy posted a fourth-place finish in his collegiate debut at the DBU Orville Rogers XC opener last week. The freshman crossed the finish line in 26:26.7 in the 8-kilometer event and posted an average mile time of 5:19.2 to help lead the Patriots to a team win in the season opener.
 
WOMEN’S
Lexi Maul, West Texas A&M, FR, Sports & Exercise Science, Pampa, Texas, Pampa HS
Maul was the fourth finisher for the Lady Buff squad that finished second at the Big Country Festival, just three points behind Division I program TCU. The freshman finished the 4-kilometer race in 15:06.3 to finish 15th overall to grab 14 points for WT in a race the Lady Buffs bested three Division I teams.
