Only one event is on the schedule for Lone Star Conference cross country this week – the Wednesday (Oct. 11) ASU Blue and Gold Classic in San Angelo, Texas.
After an October 6-7 weekend of competition which resulted in team and individual season and personal-best performances, excitement is building for what is expected to be highly competitive men's and women's
LSC Cross Country Championship races. The event is set for Saturday, October 21 in Portales, N.M., on the Eastern New Mexico University campus. The women's 6K race begins at 9:30 a.m. MDT followed by the men's 8K at 10:30 a.m. MDT.
Last Weekend:
LSC teams competed in Alabama, Texas and New Mexico in preparation for the conference meets. … Dallas Baptist women won the DBU Old Glory Gallop 5K as four runners placed among the Top 7 finishers led by medalist Lesli Salas. Four LSC teams nabbed top 10 places: Midwestern State (6th), Oklahoma Christian (8th), Cameron (9th) and St. Edward's (10th). In the men's 8K, DBU collected a runner-up finish followed by Oklahoma Christian (4th) Western New Mexico (7th), and UT Tyler (8th) in the top 10. … Both Lubbock Christian teams ran the New Mexico Junior College Invitational II. Madelyn Merrell placed fourth in the women's 5K and Hagen Sage sixth in the men's 8K to top LCU finishers. … ENMU prepped for the conference championships hosting the Greyhound Invitational as both squads placed second. Kaylyn De la Rosa was second in the women's 6K with freshman Matthew Guerra runner-up in the men's 8K. … St. Edward's placed 13th and UAFS 33rd in the men's UAH Chargers Invitational 8K. SEU's Dylan Sequeira led LSC competitors (16th). In the women's 5K, St. Edward's was 16th and UAFS 25th in the loaded 41-team field. … Texas A&M International claimed the team and individual titles in the men's OLLU Saints Classic 8K with Texas A&M-Kingsville fourth. TAMIU runners went one-two-three in the race. In the women's 6K, TAMIU was third led by Beverlyne Kipchumba's runner-up finish. TAMUK individuals placed first (Ivanova Yanes) and third (Maya Espinosa).

RUNNERS OF THE WEEK Competitions October 1-8
MEN
Adam Whitehead, Dallas Baptist, Sr., Philosophy/Politics/Economics, Gilbert, Ariz. (Arete Prep Academy)
Adam Whitehead used a 4:56.1 mile pace over the 8K DBU Old Glory Gallop course to post a personal record 24:32.1, the fifth fastest 8K time in the LSC this season. Racing against a field of 295 runners, the senior's eight-place individual performance helped guide DBU to a second-place finish among the 28 teams.
WOMEN
Ivanova Yanes, Texas A&M-Kingsville, So., Kinesiology, Hollywood, Fla. (Avan Garde Academy)
Ivanova Yanes led the OLLU Saints Collegiate Invite 6K start-to-finish, cruising to victory in 20:54.0 nearly 50 seconds ahead of the field. The Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore knocked 27 seconds off her school record and heads into the conference championship with the fastest 6K time among LSC runners and the 29th best 6K mark in NCAA Division II this season.

Emmanuel Langat, Texas A&M International, Fr., Undecided, Kericho, Kenya (Londiani Boy's HS)
Emmanuel Langat led Texas A&M International to a first-place team finish at the OLLU Saints 8K Collegiate Invite, finishing as the individual medalist with a time of 25:02. It is the freshman's first individual win of his career and the first team title for TAMIU this season.
WOMEN
Lesli Salas, Dallas Baptist, Fr., Kinesiology, San Angelo, Texas (Cornerstone Christian School)
Lesli Salas bested a field of 287 runners to capture first place at the DBU Old Glory Gallop 5K, posting a season-best 17:22.1 time, slicing over 50 seconds off her best 5K time of the season. The freshman's performance led Dallas Baptist to a first-place finish in the 33-team field.
