LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 11

 
It's Tourney Time!
Volleyball makes the move to the postseason phase of the 2023 season with eight teams headed to the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Tournament. The 42nd edition of the conference tournament is scheduled Thursday through Saturday (November 16-18) and hosted by No. 1 seed Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas.
 
LSC Tournament play begins with four Thursday quarterfinal matches. No. 3 Angelo State faces No. 6 UT Tyler at 12 p.m. followed by No. 2 West Texas A&M versus No. 7 Texas Woman’s at 2:30 p.m. No. 1 DBU faces No. 8 Texas A&M International in the 5 p.m. match, while No. 4 UAFS meets No. 5 Texas A&M-Kingsville in the7:30 p.m. match. Two semifinal matches are Friday evening (5 p.m., 7:30 p.m.) with the championship Saturday at 3 p.m.

Every match of the LSC Volleyball Tournament will be available on the LSC Digital Network or on the LSC Digital Network OTT app. Fans will be able to purchase each match for $15. Customers who have a monthly or yearly pass will have access to all matches.

DBU and West Texas A&M finished as co-champions for the regular-season title. A win over West Texas A&M the first week of league play proved to be the tiebreaker as the Lady Patriots earned the No. 1 seed and tournament hosting duties.
 
The November 13 AVCA/Taraflex Division II Top 25 poll lists West Texas A&M #6,moving down one spot from the previous seven weeks. Angelo State and DBU are among teams receiving votes.  LINK  Next ranking November 20.
 
LSC teams closed the regular season with a combined 78-50 (.609) against NCAA Division II opponents through November 11. ... LSC squads carry a 17-9 mark versus South Central Region rival Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and are 9-0 vs. South and 4-0 vs. Southeast Region conferences; 9-2 against Midwest region opponents; and 35-31 against the Central region.

OFFENSIVE
Sophia McIntyre, UAFS, Right Side, Fr., Biology, Overland Park, Kan. (Blue Valley North HS)
Freshman Sophia McIntyre posted a .488 attack percentage to lead UAFS in the two-win weekend and secure the Lions' best-ever seeding for the LSC Tournament. A right-side hitter, McIntyre put down 11 kills without an error while hitting .647 in her first career start in the sweep of Midwestern State. She came back for 12 kills (.385 pct.) adding five blocks and four digs in the win vs. regionally ranked Texas Woman's.
 
DEFENSIVE
Dakota Rogers-Hurtado, UT Tyler, Middle Blocker, Jr., Kinesiology, McKinney, Texas (McKinney Boyd HS)
Junior Dakota Rogers-Hurtado was the centerpiece of a rock-solid defensive effort for UT Tyler in wins over UT Permian Basin and (RV) Angelo State. The middle blocker totaled 10.0 blocks between the two wins, seven of which were solo. Rogers-Hurtado directed a defense that limited UTPB and ASU to a combined .139 hitting percentage, including holding ASU to 42 kills and a .113 hitting percentage. She added 10 kills while scoring 18.5 points for the weekend.
 
SETTER
Emma Lade, Texas A&M International, Setter, So., Biology, Howard Lake, Minn. (Mayer Lutheran HS)
Sophomore Emma Lade dished out 147 assists to lead Texas A&M International to a 3-0 week and an upset of No. 5-ranked West Texas to round out conference play and secure a second consecutive LSC tournament appearance. The setter in a 5-1 system, Lade averaged 11.3 assists and topped the 1,000 assist mark for a second straight season. She led TAMIU with six aces, averaged 2.76 digs, and registered a double-double with 56 assists and 22 digs versus St. Edward's.
