Lubbock Christian won the Lone Star Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Cup for the second consecutive year, it was announced Saturday (July 22) at the annual LSC SAAC Retreat in Denton, Texas.
 
The LSC SAAC Cup, which was first presented in 2009, is awarded to the SAAC program with the most points at the end of the school year. Points are determined by a criteria involving community service projects, Make-A-Wish participation, involvement in LSC organized SAAC events and NCAA organized events.
 
During the 2022-23 academic year, LCU's SAAC group helped organize a YWCA Thanksgiving dinner, Toys for Tots drive, canned food drive, Soles 4 Souls shoe collection, Habitat for Humanity build and A Night to Shine. The group also served at a LBK annual service event.
 
LCU’s SAAC also volunteered at a LCU soccer tailgate, community Trunk or Treat, Special Olympics soccer tournament, Military Appreciation Day at LCU Softball and Baseball and a LCU Cheer Showoff. The group helped raise $6,318 for local nonprofit organizations, such as Team Luke Hope for Minds, Olivia Needs a Ride, UMC Children's Hospital and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation of West Texas.
 
LCU's SAAC officers in 2022-2023 were Richard Alvarez (President), Prestley Hammond (Vice President), Sydney Jones (VP of Operations), Madison Mayben (Secretary) and Audrey Spurgin (Treasurer). Jason Speegle (advisor) oversees the group.
 
Jones, Speegle and Herman Aguirre represented the group at the LSC SAAC Retreat and accepted the LSC SAAC Cup from LSC Assistant Commissioner Danielle Anderson.
