LSC Cross Country Weekly Release - Week 2


A lighter slate last weekend (Sept. 7-8) gives way to highly competitive races Friday and Saturday (Sept. 15-16) for Lone Star Conference cross country teams. Six men's and seven women's teams are at Friday's Texas Tech Open while two others are at the Texas A&M Invitational and one at the Missouri Southern Stampede. Saturday's Incarnate Word Invitational field includes a pair of LSC teams.

MEN
Josphat Langat, Texas A&M International, So., Nursing, Nairobi, Kenya (Alliance HS)
Texas A&M International sophomore Josphat Langat opened his 2023 season leading all non-Division I runners at the 47th Annual Rice Invitational. Langat finished sixth with a time of 16:18 in the 5.2-kilometer race (September 8). His performance led the Dustdevils in a sixth-place finish among the 12 teams – the highest showing of a non-Division I team.
 
WOMEN
Jadyn Dangerfield, Midwestern State, So., Computer Science, Lancaster, Texas (Mesquite HS)
Sophomore Jadyn Dangerfield claimed her first individual collegiate win while helping Midwestern State to a perfect score at the Mustang Derby (September 7). Dangerfield completed the 4-kilometer loop in 15:47.00 while finishing shoulder-to-shoulder with teammates Ella Pando, Mariana Sanchez, and Nathalia Escontrias to pace the 42 competitors.
 
 
FRESHMAN RUNNERS OF THE WEEK
 
MEN
Emmanuel Langat, Texas A&M International, Fr., Undecided, Kericho, Kenya (Londiani Boy's HS)
Emmanuel Langat got his collegiate career off to a solid start, placing 27th at the 47th Annual Rice Invitational with a 17:05.0 time over the 5.2-kilometer course (September 8). Langat's showing was the highest finish for a freshman in the 92-runner field and paced the Dustdevils to sixth in the team standings.
 
WOMEN
Jaycee Lyons, Midwestern State, Fr., Nursing, Lakeside City, Texas (Holliday HS)
Jaycee Lyons claimed fifth place in the Mustang Derby finishing the 4k course in 15:51.70 to help Midwestern State to a perfect team score in the five-team race (September 7). The freshman has turned in team countable performances in each of her first two collegiate meets.
