West Texas A&M’s Williams Amponsah and Angelo State’s Elvis Kryukov, Marcia Spence and Abby Zamzow claimed Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field individual honors to headline the league’s postseason awards, which were announced Monday (March 4) by the league office.

The LSC honored 102 athletes for their efforts at the 2024 LSC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were held Feb. 23-24 at the University of Oklahoma’s John Jacobs Track and Field Complex in Norman, Okla.

Amponsah was named LSC Indoor Outstanding Male Track Athlete. The junior set LSC Championships records in both the 3,000 meters (8:10.15) and 5,000 meters (14:13.94) and totaled a conference-high 20 points. He has top 10 times in each event in all of NCAA Division II.

Kryukov earned the title of LSC Indoor Outstanding Male Field Athlete for the second consecutive year. The senior won the heptathlon (5399) at the LSC Championships and was runner-up in the shot put (15.25m, 50-00.50). He totaled 18 points at the event. Kryukov ranks No. 4 in Division II in the heptathlon.

Spence was voted LSC Indoor Outstanding Female Track Athlete for the second straight year. At the LSC Championships, the senior won the pentathlon with a 3950 and the 60-meter hurdles with a record time of 8.52. She also finished runner up in the long jump (5.79m, 19-00.00) and totaled 28 points, which tied for the meet high with teammate Zamzow. She has a Division II top 5 mark in the pentathlon and top 10 marks in the other events.

Zamzow was dubbed LSC Indoor Outstanding Female Field Athlete. The junior won the long jump (5.89m, 19-04.00) and took second in the triple jump (12.46m, 40-10.50) at the LSC Championships. She also placed third in the pentathlon (3714) on her way to 28 points. She ranks top 20 in all of Division II in all three vents.

West Texas A&M’s Matt Stewart swept Coach of the Year honors for the men and women for the fourth straight year after guiding the Buffs and Lady Buffs to their fourth and 11th consecutive conference title, respectively.

The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships. The second team includes athletes on the second-place relay teams and those scoring 8-13.9 points, while the third team recognizes members of third-place relay teams and athletes scoring 6-7.9 points.
