Lubbock Christian won the Lone Star Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Cup for the third straight year, it was announced Saturday (July 20) at the annual LSC SAAC Retreat in San Antonio, Texas.
 
The LSC SAAC Cup, which was first presented in 2009, is awarded to the SAAC program with the most points at the end of the school year. Points are determined by a criteria involving community service projects, Make-A-Wish participation, involvement in LSC organized SAAC events and NCAA organized events.
 
During the 2023-24 academic year, LCU's SAAC group helped organize an evening for 30 children from the Lubbock Children’s Home to have dinner and play games with LCU student-athletes from six different sports. The group also served Thanksgiving lunch to more than 600 people, including elementary students and their families, at the Lubbock YWCA. 
 
LCU’s SAAC also organized the first LCU Civic Engagement Day on Election Day in November. Over 100 LCU student-athletes and coaches gave their time to serve at Habitat for Humanity, Habitat ReStore and Atkins Middles School. The group helped raised $3,532 for local nonprofit organizations, such as Make-a-Wish Lubbock, Susan G Komen, Team Luke Hope for Minds and the UMC Children’s Hospital in Lubbock.
 
LCU's SAAC officers in 2023-2024 were women’s golfer Prestley Hammond (President), women’s track and field athlete Sydney Jones (Vice President), women’s basketball player Audrey Spurgin (VP of Operations), Esports player Lily Sowell (Secretary) and volleyball player Kayton Genenbacher (Treasurer). Jason Speegle (advisor) and Hunter Lively (assistant advisor) oversee the group.
 
Jones, Speegle and men’s golfer Jackson Comer represented the group at the LSC SAAC Retreat and accepted the LSC SAAC Cup from LSC Associate Commissioner Amy Carlton.
