Big weekend of racing ahead

A full weekend of competition is on the Lone Star Conference men's and women's cross country schedule for Thursday and Friday (Sept. 12-13). Action begins with the MSU Mustang Derby Thursday evening in Wichita Falls and includes three men and five women LSC teams in the field. Friday's schedule has conference teams scattered among three events: Texas A&M Invite (College Station), UIW Cross Country Invitational (Windcrest, Texas) and the Texas Tech Open (Lubbock).

 

Top team finishes get 2024 started

West Texas A&M swept the Aggie Duels team titles, finishing just ahead of host Cameron in the women's race (35-37 pts) and 20 points better than CU in the men's race (37-57 pts.). On the men's side, Oklahoma Christian (SNU Invitational), UT Tyler (UTT Open) and Western New Mexico (UCCS Rust Buster) each claimed runner-up team finishes. For the women, Oklahoma Christian (SNU Invitational) and UT Tyler (UTT Open) joined WT as team winners.

RUNNERS OF THE WEEK  |  Competitions September 5-8

Women: Julie LaFare, Jr., West Texas A&M, Sport & Exercise Science, Uzes, France

Julie LaFare picked up a victory in her first race for West Texas A&M, covering the 5K Aggie Duels course in 17:18.53 behind a pace time of 5:34 minutes per mile. The junior's win paced WT who claimed the Aggie Duels team title with 1-2-3 individual finishes.

Men: Kgaogelo Moloisi, Jr., Cameron, Criminal Justice, South Africa

Junior Kgaogelo Moloisi won the 8K Aggie Duels individual title by 11.88 seconds with a personal-best 24:46.32 on a 4:59 minute/mile pace. Moloisi's win led Cameron to a second-place finish among the eight teams.

FRESHMAN RUNNER OF THE WEEK  |  Competitions September 5-8

Women: Kinley Kite, Fr., Oklahoma Christian, Early Childhood Education, Norman, Okla.

In her first collegiate race, Kinley Kite posted a personal-best time of 17:39 for the RSU Distance After Dark 5K, marking her first time to break the 18-minute threshold. Kite helped the Oklahoma Christian women to a second place team finish.
