NMJC Open Friday morning (Oct. 10). … Oklahoma Christian takes its teams to Romeoville, Ill., and the
Lewis Crossover on Saturday (Oct. 11). … The LSC will have 13 women’s and 11 men’s teams competing in Saturday’s
DBU Old Glory Gallop with all getting a first look at the conference championship course at AP Ranch in Fort Worth. … West Texas A&M is the only LSC team idle this weekend.
Koomson Nabs National Honor

Sarah Koomson garnered USTFCCCA Division II National Athlete of the Week honors following her performance at the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic Gold 5K (Oct. 4). Koomson posted an LSC season-best 5k time -- 16:54.47 -- finishing eighth behind seven runners who were each top-100 at the 2024 NCAA Division I Championships.

Week Five Review
October 4 was a busy race day as LSC teams competed in Fayetteville, Ark., Louisville, Ky., and San Antonio.
- Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival (Oct. 4): The LSC was represented in four races as part of the celebration of cross country in Fayetteville, Ark.
- McDonnell Memorial 8K (Men): UT Dallas sophomore Alex Bozhilov ran a school record 25:15.2 to finish 64th and the top LSC runner among the 285 competitors. St. Edward’s placed 22nd as Arlo Gonzales crossed the line in 25:44.1 (99th) and AJ Pena in 25:59.7 (121st). UTD was 26th in team standings.
- Prairie Fire Pepper 8K (Men): Brody Skipworth (44th, 27:19.5) and Caden Triantos (48th, 27:30.1) paced Oklahoma Christian to seventh among the 25 teams.
- Harter’s Habanero 5K (Women): SEU duo Mia Rivera (44th, 18:17.7) and Delaney Long (74th, 18:18.9) paced SEU who finished 20th in the 29-team race.
- Prairie Fire Pepper 5K (Women): UTD claimed a pair of Top 20 runners – Alexia Callahan (16th, 19:04.7) and Bharvi Varu (20th, 19:16.6) – en route to finishing seventh among 25 teams.
- Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic (Oct. 4): West Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Kingsville men and women represented the LSC in four races.
- Gold 8K (Men): West Texas A&M placed a pair of runners inside the Top 15 to claim third in the 32-team field. Adrian Legarreta posted the second-fastest 8K time in the conference – 23:52.3 – for eighth while Matthys Bourse was 13th in 23:56.6, the third fastest time in the conference.
- Blue 8K (Men): Kristian Green and Roberto Alejandro placed in the top quarter of the 417 runners in leading Texas A&M-Kingsville to 27th among the 41 teams. Green posted a 26:07.1 time for 61st while Alejandro was 121st in 26:37.7.
- Gold 5K (Women): A trio of Top 20 finishers powered WT to third place behind two Division I squads in the 31-team field as Sarah Koomson (8th, 16:54.5), Naomi Addo (18th, 17:19.8) and Abigail Abugire (19th, 17:20.1) led the Lady Buffs. Competing as an individual, TAMUK’s Ivanova Yanes finished 70th in 18:05.1.
- Silver 5K (Women): Kayla Trevino posted a 20:02.5 (20th) and Ella Hester ran 20:17.1 (25th) in leading TAMUK to sixth in the 23-team Silver 5K.
- OLLU Invitational (Oct. 4): Sul Ross State finished fourth in both the men’s 8K and women’s 6K races hosted by Our Lady of the Lake (San Antonio). Ariana Escalante led the SRSU women, finishing ninth with a 24:41.1 performance. Carlos Guerrero was the top Lobo men’s runner (21st, 30:52.7).

NCAA Championship season begins with the
South Central Regional November 8 at Walking Stick Golf Club in Pueblo, Colo. Teams and individuals who qualify out of the regional will head north to Kenosha, Wis., and the Wayne E. Dannehl National XC Course for the November 22 Division II National Championship.

The top Division II finisher at the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic Gold 5k, junior Sarah Koomson posted a 16:54.47 time for eighth place and led West Texas A&M to a third-place team finish. Koomson’s performance earned her USTFCCCA Division II Athlete of the Week honors, her second career honor
(Sept. 18, 2023).
MEN
Adrian Legarreta, West Texas A&M, Sr., Sports & Exercise Science, Friona, Texas
Adrian Legarreta led the way for West Texas A&M as the Buffs finished third at the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic Gold 8k. The senior was the highest finishing Division II competitor, registering a time of 23:52.3 to finish eighth overall. It is the second fastest 8k time posted in the LSC this season.

Kayla Trevino recorded a personal-best 5k time at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, racing a 20:02.5 to place 20th in the Silver 5k. Trevino was the first finisher for Texas A&M-Kingsville, leading the Javelinas to a sixth in the standings.
