Eastern New Mexico senior forward Jose Murillo has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II Conference Information Directors of America National Player of the Week for games played Nov. 24-30, it was announced on Tuesday (Dec. 2).
Murillo is the first player from the Lone Star Conference selected for the national honor this season. He was also named the LSC’s
Defensive Player of the Week on Dec. 1.
Murillo, a 6-foot-9 native of Chihuahua, Mexico, averaged 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Greyhounds (5-1) over two wins last week against MSU Denver and CSU Pueblo. In ENMU’s 78-65 victory over MSU Denver, Murillo had 15 points on seven of 11 shooting from the field and pulled down 15 rebounds, while also adding three assists, two blocked shots and four steals. The following day against previously undefeated CSU Pueblo, Murillo recorded another double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds, while also blocking four shots along the way. Those efforts helped the Greyhounds, who have now won five straight games, to hold their two foes to a combined 34.5 percent field goal percentage mark.
Murillo became just the third player in ENMU history with multiple games with at least 15 rebounds in a career and is the only player in the LSC averaging a double-double for the season (17.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game).
