DBU junior
Kate Van Vessem has been named the Lone Star Conference STUNT Academic Athlete of the Year for a second consecutive season, leading the 12-person 2025 STUNT All-Academic Team announced by the Conference on Thursday (March 27).
Van Vessem is a broadcast and digital media carrying a 3.96 grade-point average and a two-time LSC STUNT All-Academic Team member. Named to the 2024 College STUNT Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll, Van Vessem has been cited for LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll three times. A backspot from Sunnyvale, Texas, Van Vessem has recorded 93 points this season, helped DBU to an 8-0 conference record and No. 1 seed in the 2025 LSC STUNT Championship Tournament.
Van Vessem is joined on the LSC STUNT All-Academic Team by Julia Cargill, Rhylee Mullenix and Elle Tokarczyk from DBU; Sanaa Johnson, Courtney McClellan, Yanelle Nicholson, Sydnye Forde-Richins and Riley Smith of St. Mary's; and Alicia Kenney, Bella Lind and Brooke Speights from Texas Woman's.
Seven of the 12 honored athletes are two-time LSC STUNT All-Academic Team members: Cargill, Mullenix, Johnson, Nicholson, Forde-Richins, Smith and Van Vessem.
The STUNT All-Academic Team, selected by vote of the LSC sports information directors, recognizes student-athlete accomplishments in the classroom and in their sport. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team ballot, individuals must maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Van Vessem will be a candidate for the 2024-25 LSC Fred Jacoby Academic Athlete of the Year award to be announced in June.
