LSC Tiebreaker Policy
The final week of the Lone Star Conference baseball regular season is here, and there is just a one-game difference in the race for the regular season title.
Angelo State (39-7 overall, 37-7 LSC) is just ahead of UT Tyler (37-9, 36-8 LSC) after both teams recorded a sweep last weekend. ASU has prevailed in nine straight games and UT Tyler has won 10 in a row. ASU travels to Cameron this week, while UT Tyler hosts St. Mary’s. ASU and UT Tyler split their series back in February.
The league’s top seed will receive a first-round bye in the LSC Baseball Championship and will host the double-elimination championship round on May 8-10. The opening round will be best-of-three series on May 2-4 at the sites of the No. 2 (vs. No. 7), 3 (vs. 6) and 4 (vs. 5) seeds. The LSC tournament champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.
St. Edward’s (31-17 LSC) is currently in third place, followed by Lubbock Christian (28-16), St. Mary’s (26-18), West Texas A&M (26-18), Texas A&M-Kingsville (25-19) and Eastern New Mexico (24-20). To see the league’s tiebreaker policy, click

This week’s game will return to a Friday-Sunday (April 25-27) format.

In addition to homers, McCool is leading the LSC in RBI (77), slugging percentage (1.034) and OPS (1.572). UT Tyler’s Drew Schmidt owns the league’s top batting average at .455 and is tied for the most triples (five) with ENMU’s Kyle Kiernan and TAMUK’s Maurice Martinez. UT Permian Basin’s Kaleb Scull has 22 doubles and SEU’s Travis Chestnut has 39 stolen bases.
UT Tyler’s Kyle Froehlich (7-0), LCU’s Ryan Markwardt (7-1) and ASU’s Dax Dathe (7-3) are tied for the league lead in wins on the mound. SEU’s Kobe Jaramillo has the best ERA (2.87) and most strikeouts (78). SEU’s Parker Tennill has 10 saves to lead the conference.
Four players from the LSC have won national player of the week honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association – three hitters and one pitcher. WT senior first baseman
Dylan Fesperman (March 5),
McCool (Feb. 13) and Cameron senior third baseman
Lance Barnett (Feb. 6) have won the hitting award, while
Markwardt (Feb. 20) was honored for pitching.
McCool became
the LSC’s all-time home run leader his 48th blast on March 23 against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas. He broke the mark of 47 set by WT’s Ben Hangartner from 1999-2002.
Two
LSC single-game records have been broken this season as Fesperman
had 13 RBI on Feb. 28 and McCool
hit four home runs on March 10. SEU junior outfielder Connor Cox tied an LSC record with four doubles in a game on March 30. To see the LSC record book, click

ASU was the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll. ASU graduate student and outfielder Jacob Guerrero and UT Tyler senior right-hander Rawley Hector were named
