Only one meet is on the week three schedule in Lone Star Conference cross country -- Saturday’s men’s and women’s Mountaineer Hill Country Invitational in Kerrville, Texas. Texas A&M International and Sul Ross State are both expected to join the field as the remaining LSC teams take a break and resume competition over the September 26-27 weekend.
 
A Quick Week Two
Late summer temperatures didn’t deter LSC teams and runners from bettering finishes and performances from the opening weekend. Midwestern State and West Texas A&M women’s teams were joined by the UT Dallas men in winning team titles, while Texas A&M International’s Ian Rono finished at the front of the UIW Invitational men’s field.
  • MSU Mustang Derby (Sept. 11): Midwestern State used a runner-up finish by Ella Pando (14:20.1) to win the 4k women’s Mustang Derby. Cameron’s Akaya Lightbourne finished in third (14:43.3). On the men’s side, UT Dallas won its first meet as a Division II program, outdistancing Cameron by five points (41-46) to claim the Mustang Derby 6k behind Alexander Bozhilov (3rd, 18:42.3).
  • Texas Tech Open (Sept. 12): WT claimed a second consecutive women’s title as five runners posted Top 10 finishes in the 6k race, led by Sarah Koomson (2nd, 21:09.4) and Eliette Chaput (3rd, 21:17.2). Lubbock Christian was third while Western New Mexico, Eastern New Mexico and Angelo State took 9th-10th-11th on the women’s side. ... Adrian Legarreta (6th, 24:32.9) and Tommaso Toppi (7th, 24:41.5) led WT to a runner-up finish in the men’s 8k race. The Top 20 finish by Alfons Rawall (19th, 25:57.4) pushed LCU into fourth while WNMU claimed sixth on the team list behind Samuel Ketcham (23rd, 26:19.3).
  • UIW Invitational (Sept. 12): TAMIU’s Ian Rono claimed the men’s individual title by 30 seconds, posting an 18:45.3 over the 4-mile course as the Dustdevils finished eighth. Texas A&M-Kingsville was 11th led by Alan Baez (43rd, 21:01.6). ... Ivanova Yanes (17th, 18:37.3) was the first Division II runner across the line in the women’s 5k leading TAMUK to sixth on the team list. TAMIU followed at No. 11 led by Fancy Jelagat (37th, 19:23).
  • Texas A&M Invitational (Sept. 13): DBU, UT Tyler and St. Edward’s men and women held their own on the Division I-heavy fields. In the 8k men’s race, DBU took sixth led by Noah Joy (22nd, 24:36.7) while UTT was seventh behind Top 20 finishers David Soto (14th, 24:29.1) and Grayson Williams (16th, 24:27.3). Arlo Gonzales was the top SEU runner (43rd, 25:11.7) as the Hilltoppers were 11th. ... In the women’s 5k, St. Edward’s Mia Rivers was the top LSC finisher just outside the Top 25 (26th, 18:4.2). Macy Cogburn (35th, 18:30.3) paced UT Tyler to seventh and Courtney Richman (38th, 18:36.9) led DBU to eighth on the team list. SEU was 10th among teams.
  • Lobo Cross Country Invitational (Sept. 13): Eloy Serrano-Borrego led Eastern New Mexico with a 16:17.93 time and 16th-place individual finish in the 5k race as teammates Thomas Aerdts (29th, 18:24.1) and Aiden Ramirez (30th, 18:32.0) were among the Top 30 individuals.
Targeting Postseason
The 2025 schedule shows Lone Star Conference teams racing every week from September 4 through October 18 building toward the October 25 LSC Championships at the AP Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas. Teams will get a look at the conference course when DBU hosts its Old Glory Gallop on October 11.  ...  NCAA Championship season begins with the South Central Regional November 8 at Walking Stick Golf Club in Pueblo, Colo. Teams and individuals who qualify out of the regional will head north to Kenosha, Wis., and the Wayne E. Dannehl National XC Course for the November 22 Division II National Championship.

WOMEN
Sarah Koomson, West Texas A&M, Jr., General Studies, Adom Banso, Ghana
West Texas A&M junior Sarah Koomson impressed again, finishing second at the 6k Texas Tech Open with a 21:09.4 time. It is the fastest 6k time in the LSC this season. Koomson led WT to its second victory of the season with five runners inside the Top 10.
 
MEN
Ian Rono, Texas A&M International, Fr., Nursing, Eldoret, Kenya
Ian Rono started the season strong for Texas A&M International, winning the UIW Invitational title in the 149-runner field. The freshman finished the 4-mile race in a TAMIU school record 18:45.3, besting the second-place runner by 30.1 seconds. Rono also garnered LSC Freshman Runner of the Week honors for his performance.

WOMEN
Chama El Hadiri, Eastern New Mexico, Fr., Business Administration, Marrakech, Morocco
In her first collegiate race, Eastern New Mexico’s Chama El Hadiri ran a 23:24.7 over the 6k Texas Tech Open course to finish 22nd overall and the first Division II freshman runner across the finish line. El Hadiri’s time is the fastest 6k recorded by an LSC freshman in the 2025 season.
 
MEN
