(Aug. 4-6 games)
OFFENSIVE
Connor Ackerley, Western New Mexico, QB, Fr., English, Tempe, Ariz.
Western New Mexico freshman quarterback Connor Ackerley tied a Lone Star Conference record and set a school record with seven touchdown passes in a road game against New Mexico Highlands. Ackerley was 34 of 57 passing for 529 yards with just one interception. He had at least one TD pass in all four quarters and connected with seven different receivers. DEFENSIVE
Demetrias Charles, Angelo State, CB, Sr., Management, Channelview, Texas
Angelo State senior cornerback Demetrias Charles had two interceptions on consecutive drives in the first quarter, including returning one 21 yards for a touchdown to help the No. 10-ranked Rams top Emporia State 41-20 and improve to 2-0 on the season. Charles also had a team-high six tackles – five solo. His TD made it 13-0 and his second pick set up another score to make it 20-0 with not even five minutes off the clock.

Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore kicker Daniel Gauna made all three of his field goal attempts and added five extra-points to help the Javelinas to a 60-12 season-opening win over Lincoln (Calif.). Gauna had points in all four quarters. His field goals were good from 40, 34 and 13 yards.
