Lone Star Conference men’s basketball league play is heating up, and seven teams are above .500 in conference play: No. 25 DBU (14-5, 8-1 LSC), No. 5 Lubbock Christian (16-3, 7-2), No. 24 Eastern New Mexico (14-3, 7-2), Western New Mexico (12-4, 6-3), No. 16 West Texas A&M, No. 18 St. Edward’s (16-4, 5-4) and St. Mary’s (12-5, 5-4 ). Texas A&M-Kingsville and new league member UT Dallas are both 4-4 in LSC play.
DBU had its 11-game winning streak snapped by StMU, but the Patriots have won 14-2 after starting the season 0-3.
ENMU, WNMU and Texas A&M International have won back-to-back games.
In non-conference play, LSC teams have gone 40-24 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams.
ENMU senior forward Jose Murillo was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II Conference Information Directors of America
National Player of the Week on Dec. 2.
DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the
preseason poll. Senior guard Damani Claxton of No. 23 St. Mary’s was voted
preseason player of the year.
The LSC men’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 5, 7-8 at
Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in February.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UTD and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

Eastern New Mexico senior forward Jose Murillo averaged 20.5 points on 72 percent shooting, 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks to help the No. 24-ranked Greyhounds to road wins over Midwestern State and No. 5 Lubbock Christian. Murillo shot 72 percent from the floor and added one assist and one steal. Against LCU, he had a double double (23 points, 13 rebounds) – his ninth of the season – to halt the Chap’s seven-game winning streak. Murillo, who won the league’s top weekly defensive award earlier this season, leads the LSC with a 63.7 percent field goal percentage.
DEFENSIVE
Mo Austin, Eastern New Mexico, G, So., Business Administration, Pueblo, Colo.
Eastern New Mexico sophomore guard Mo Austin averaged 5.5 steals to go along with 13.5 points to help the No. 24-ranked Greyhounds to a pair of conference road wins, including one over No. 5 Lubbock Christian. Austin also had five defensive rebounds and added seven assists. He had game-highs in steals in each game. His seven takeaways (in just 29 minutes) during an 84-60 victory against Midwestern State are the second most in a single game in the LSC this season. His 50 steals on the season also ranks second in the league.
