Watch LSC Men’s Basketball live on FloCollege
Due to the winter storm sweeping across the league, just 10 Lone Star Conference men’s basketball games were played last week. The games not played will all be rescheduled.
DBU (15-5 overall) remains in first place in the league standings at 9-1. No. 19 Eastern New Mexico (15-3) and No. 11 Lubbock Christian (17-3) are tied for second at 8-2. Western New Mexico (14-4) is alone in fourth place at 8-3.
WNMU has won a league-high four games in a row, while ENMU has prevailed in three consecutive games. DBU, Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Permian Basin have won back-to-back games.
ENMU has not lost away from home, going 10-0. West Texas A&M is a perfect 10-0 at home.
In non-conference play, LSC teams have gone 40-24 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams.
ENMU senior forward Jose Murillo was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II Conference Information Directors of America
National Player of the Week on Dec. 2.
DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the
preseason poll. St. Mary’s senior guard Damani Claxton was voted
preseason player of the year.
The LSC men’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 5, 7-8 at
Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in February.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

UT Permian Basin senior guard Sharrod Taylor had 35 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals – all team highs – to fuel a 100-95 overtime road win over Texas A&M International. He hit the game-tying 3-pointer with 4.4 seconds left in regulation to force overtime – capping off a stretch of 18 points in just over six and a half minutes. Taylor was 9-for-16 from the field, hit 5 of 8 from 3-point range and made 12 of 14 free throws. His 35 points is the second-highest single game total in the league this season. Taylor’s play has helped the Falcons win four of their last five games.
DEFENSIVE
Xavion Brown, DBU, G, Sr., Exercise Science, Sacramento, Calif.
DBU senior guard Xavion Brown had five steals and a blocked shot in just 19 minutes of action to lead an 80-64 win over Midwestern State. He fueled a unit that forced 27 turnovers – the second highest single-game total in the league this season. DBU’s defense owns the top three in that category this season. Brown also added nine points, eight assists and three rebounds as the Patriots won for the 13th time in 14 games. His 52 steals rank second in the league.
