With two weeks remaining in the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball regular season, No. 10 Eastern New Mexico (21-3 overall) and DBU (20-6 overall) are tied for first place at 14-2. ENMU has won a league-best nine in a row, while DBU has prevailed in five straight games.
No. 11 Lubbock Christian is in third place (22-4, 13-3 LSC), followed by No. 15 St. Edward’s (23-4 overall) and Western New Mexico (19-5 overall) at 12-4. SEU has won seven games in a row. St. Mary’s (17-7, 10-6 LSC), West Texas A&M (17-9, 9-7 LSC) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (12-12, 9-7 LSC) also have winning records in league play.
LCU’s Amondo Miller Jr. (20.5) and WT’s Fontaine Williams Jr. (20.2) are in a tight race for the league scoring title. SEU’s Blake Nielson is close behind at 18.4 points per game.
LCU’s Antonio Pusateri is in the only player in the league averaging double digit rebounds per game (10.7). UT Dallas’ Peyton Dulin has the assists lead at 4.7 per game. ENMU’s Jose Murillo leads in blocks per game (1.9), while teammate Cooper Jackson is tops in steals per game (3.1)
In non-conference play, LSC teams have gone 40-24 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams.
Murillo was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II Conference Information Directors of America
National Player of the Week on Dec. 2.
DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the
preseason poll. StMU senior guard Damani Claxton was voted
preseason player of the year.
The
LSC men’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 5, 7-8 at
Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets are now
on sale.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, new league member UTD and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

OFFENSIVE
Jamison Kay, St. Edward’s, F, Sr., Business, Yuma, Ariz.
St. Edward’s senior forward Jamison Kay averaged 23.3 points, eight rebounds and 3.6 assists to fuel a 3-0 week against St. Mary, Angelo State and UT Permian Basin. Kay scored over 20 points in each game, including a career-high 24 in a 73-71 game against St. Mary’s. He also sealed an overtime victory against ASU with a dunk and two free throws in overtime. Against UTPB, he had a double double (23 points, 11 board) with five assists. Over the three games, Kay shot 59.5 percent and made seven of nine 3-point attempts. He also blocked two shots and stole a pass to help the No. 15-ranked Hilltoppers extend their winning streak to seven games.
DEFENSIVE
Antonio Pusateri, Lubbock Christian, F, Jr., Business Administration, San Francisco, Calif.
Lubbock Christian junior forward Antonio Pusateri had a pair of doubles doubles with 16 defensive rebounds and three blocks to lead the No. 11-ranked Chaps to wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. Pusateri, who wins the league’s top weekly defensive award for the third time this season, led a unit that allowed just 59.5 points per game. He averaged 18 points per game and his rebound totals of 10 were both game highs. Pusateri also added five assists. His 17 double doubles lead the league and are second in all of NCAA Division II this season.
