With two weeks remaining in the Lone Star Conference regular season, five teams are within five games of each other at the top of the standings.
No. 6 West Texas A&M (38-6 overall, 28-4 LSC) is in the lead, followed by No. 13 Angelo State (38-9, 27-5 LSC), No. 23 UT Tyler (36-10, 28-6 LSC), No. 15 Oklahoma Christian (36-11, 28-8 LSC) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (28-14, 23-9 LSC).
ASU has the league’s top winning streak at eight games, followed by Lubbock Christian’s five in a row. The Lady Chaps are 23-19 overall and 19-13 in league play.
WT leads the league in hitting (.392), ASU is tops in pitching (2.58 ERA) and OC has the best fielding percentage (.977).
The WT duo of senior infielder Jordyn De Los Santos and freshman left-handed pitcher/designated hitter Brooke Janning
swept the first NFCA Division II Louisville Slugger Player of the Week and Wilson Pitcher of the Week awards of the season, respectively.
UT Tyler was the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll. ASU senior outfielder Tatiana Trotter and OC senior right-hander Jill Dickson were named
LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to headline the 34 players on the league’s
Preseason Watch List.
The nine-team, single-elimination
LSC Softball Championship is scheduled for May 6-9 (Wednesday-Saturday) at the site of the league’s No. 1 seed. The LSC Tournament Champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.
The South Central Regionals are scheduled for May 14-16 with the Super Regional following on May 21-22. The campus sites are TBD. The national finals are set for May 28-June 3 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC or NCAA tournament but are eligible to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

HITTER
Kadin Vire, Lubbock Christian, C/OF, Sr., Exercise Science, Waxahachie, Texas
Lubbock Christian senior catcher/outfielder Kadin Vire hit .636 with a home run, triple and two doubles to lead the Lady Chaps to a 4-0 week against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. Vire scored five runs, drove in four runs and walked three times. She also played errorless defense. Vire had an extra-base hit in three of the four games. She extended her hitting streak to nine games and is batting 424 on the season. Vire ranks in the league’s top 10 in batting average, on-base percentage (.497), OPS (1.179), doubles (15) and triples (five).
PITCHER
Ella Resendiz, Oklahoma Christian, RHP, Fr., Nursing, Purcell, Okla.
Oklahoma Christian freshman right-hander Ella Resendiz allowed just two earned runs and struck out 11 batters over 13 2/3 innings of work to go 2-0 on the road, including a win over No. 22 UT Tyler. Resendiz went 6 2/3 innings with five strikeouts to snap the Patriots’ 11-game winning streak and gave the No. 15-ranked Eagles their first win ever at Irwin Field. On the week, she scattered nine hits and allowed just a .191 batters against average. Resendiz improved to 10-0 on the season and she also has five save.
FRESHMAN
Alexis Pacheco, Lubbock Christian, SS, Fr., Animal Science, Las Vegas, N.M.
Lubbock Christian freshman shortstop Alexis Pacheco went 6-for-12 with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBI to fuel a 4-0 week against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. She also scored four runs and walked twice. Pacheco homered in both games against TAMIU and had a three-RBI performance against TAMUK. On the week, she was 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
