The Lone Star Conference baseball regular season is complete, and UT Tyler won the title for the first time in program history. The No. 8-ranked Patriots went 40-10 and were the only league team to not lose a series all season. UT Tyler, which has won 22 of its last 24 games, lead the league in pitching (3.93 ERA) and fielding (.975). It has also scored a conference-high 464 runs.
 
With the regular season title, UT Tyler earned a first-round bye in the LSC Baseball Championship and will host the double-elimination second round (May 7-9) at Irwin Field in Tyler, Texas.
 
The six teams joining the Patriots in the LSC tournament Angelo State (36-14), No. 15 St. Mary’s (36-14), St. Edward’s (31-18), Lubbock Christian (31-19), West Texas A&M (28-22) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (25-25). The first round, best-of-three game series (May 1-3) will begin Friday. ASU (vs. TAMUK), StMU (vs. WT) and SEU (vs. LCU) will host.

Due to being an NCAA Division II provisional member, UTD (33-17) was not eligible for the LSC tournament but is eligible to win postseason awards. The Comets finished in fourth place in the standings.
 
The South Central Regionals are scheduled for May 14-17 with the Super Regional following on May 21-23. The campus sites are TBD. The national finals are set for May 29-June 6 at USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
 
The LSC postseason awards will be announced May 6.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

HITTER
Tanner Pachorek, Lubbock Christian, SS, Jr., Psychology, Aurora, Colo.
Lubbock Christian junior shortstop Tanner Pachorek hit .500 with three home runs and eight RBI to lead the Chaps to a series win over UT Permian Basin. Pachorek scored four runs, walked twice and was hit by a pitch. He hit safely in all four games – extending his hitting streak to seven games – and homered in three of them. In the regular season finale, Pachorek reached base all five times up. He also had 20 chances at shortstop and did not make an error. His play has helped the Chaps win 13 of their last 15 games entering the LSC tournament.
 
PITCHER
Caden Copeland, UT Tyler, LHP, Sr., Finance, Midlothian, Texas
UT Tyler senior left-hander Caden Copeland tossed 7 2/3 innings of shutout baseball with six strikeouts and no walks to beat No. 17 St. Mary’s on the road. Copeland, the league’s preseason pitcher of the year, did not allow a runner past second base. He scattered seven hits – all singles – in the 4-0 game. Copeland’s effort in Game of the first-place series set the tone for the No. 9-ranked Patriots to win their first LSC regular season championship. Copeland improved to 5-1 with a 3.83 ERA.
