Midwestern State, Lubbock Christian named LSC Athletic Training Staffs of the Year

Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian have been voted as the 2025-26 Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Staffs of the Year, it was announced by the conference on Thursday (July 2).

MSU claimed the award for a football-playing institution while LCU captured the award for an institution without football. MSU won the honor for the sixth time, while LCU was honored for the first time.  

MSU’s staff is led by Head Athletic Trainer Gary Diehm, who completed his 25th year with the Mustangs. In 2025-26, he was assisted by ? Assistant Head Athletic Trainer Laura Poston; Assistant Athletic Trainer Matt Day; Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer Samantha Cervantes; and student athletic trainers Kennedy Smith, Melissa Urbana, Mikya Genty-Williams, Maritza Gomez, William Longhenry, Mariana Martinez, Hunter McBride, Aubrey Mueller, Trevor Patterson, Kaylah Tinh, Wendy Uribe, Abigail Amaya, Jailyn Anderson, Wyatt Corral, Jacob Pankonien, Adriana Perez, Pricilla Posas and Todd Smith. The MSU staff provides coverage for ?13 varsity sport programs. Diehm also handled athletic training duties at the LSC Tennis Championships.

LCU’s staff is led by Director of Sports Medicine is Tom Tisdale, who has been with the Chaps since spring of 2025. In 2025-26, Tisdale was assisted by Assistant Athletic Trainers Caleb Barrientez, Juan Macilla and Journey Page; student athletic trainers Emma Pointer, Briana Erculiani, McKenna Ruiz, Magdalyn Chavez and Sabrina Nelson; and Lubbock Sports Medicine staff Dr. Stephen Flores, Miranda Altman, Ashton Meeks and Sara Dragosz. LCU athletic training provides coverage for 17 varsity sport programs.

The LSC Athletic Training Staff of the Year awards, which began in 2004-05, are voted on by the head athletic trainer of each member school. Starting in 2019-20, one award is presented to the staff of the year from a football-playing institution and one award is given to the staff of the year from a non-football playing member.

The purpose of the LSC awards is to raise awareness of the athletic training profession. Criteria for the award includes hospitality toward visiting athletic trainers and teams; preparedness with supplies, equipment, and services for visiting athletic trainers and teams; preparedness for emergency situations; and care for injured athletes from visiting teams.
