No. 17 Western Oregon improved to 2-0 and Sul Ross State earned its first win of the season during Week 1 of Lone Star Conference football. UT Permian Basin was the only LSC team idle.

#7 Grand Valley State 56, West Texas A&M 14: West Texas A&M took an early lead but could not overcome four turnovers and fell 56-14 to No. 7 Grand Valley State in front of 11,000 fans at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale, Mich. On the first play of the game, WT defensive back Phineas Allen scooped up a loose ball and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown. GVS built up a 56-7 lead before WT’s Joseph White hauled in a seven-yard pass from Porter Knox in the fourth quarter. WT’s J.B. Mitchell III caught five passes for 99 yards, while Miles Hill made 10 tackles. Complete Release
 
#11 Western Colorado 23, Angelo State 21: Angelo State had the ball with less three minutes to play but came up short, 23-21, to No. 11 Western Colorado at Mountaineer Bowl in Gunnison, Colo. ASU led 14-3 in the second quarter thanks to touchdown passes from Ayden Arp (one to Donny Bishop and another to Alan Dobbins). WC rallied and built up a 23-14 lead with 12:34 to play. ASU’s Cameron Dischler had a three-yard TD run to cut the deficit to 23-21 with 6:14 left. On the Rams’ final possession, they were sacked three times over their last four plays. Dobbins caught eight passes for 94 yards and Hunter Boudreaux had nine tackles.. Complete Release
 
New Mexico Highlands 55, Western New Mexico 32: Western New Mexico suffered its first loss of the season, 55-32, at Ben Altamirano Field in Silver City, N.M. WNMU led after the first quarter, 13-7, but NMH rallied with a big second quarter and built up a 28-13 lead at halftime. WNMU’s Jase Asley passed for 315 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 107 yards and another score. WNMU’s Zakkarii Black caught four passes for 110 yards and a TD, while Demarion Postell caught four balls for 97 yards and a score. Masumbe Netongo had an interception for the Mustangs. #17 Western Oregon 65, Southern Oregon 35: No. 17 Western Oregon broke a school record with 704 yards of offense and cruised to a 65-35 win over Southern Oregon at Raider Stadium. WOU, which improved to 2-0, broke its previous record of 696 yards in 2012. WOU jumped out to a 21-0 lead halfway through the first quarter and led 42-14 at halftime. WOU’s Jordan McCarty was 10-for-13 for 214 yards passing. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Tony McAdoo scored two TDs on both his carries and totaled for 131 yards. The Wolves had 453 yards on 40 carries. Elijah Pula had 11 tackles and Daniel Cooper and LJ Imo had two sacks each to lead WOU on defense. Imo also had an interception. Complete Release
 
Sul Ross State 53, Adams State 26: Sul Ross State totaled 656 yards of totaled offense and rolled to a 53-26 win over Jackson Field in Alpine, Texas. Will Howell was 24-for-39 for 423 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the way for the Lobos. Will Craven caught 11 passes for 280 yards and three TDs, while Rashad Madden ran for 166 yards and a TD on 16 carries. Jabari Corbett had eight tackles and a half sack, Grant Williams had a sack and forced a fumble and Jai Williams had an interception to lead SRSU on defense. Jason Maltos mad two field goals (27 and 36 yards). SRSU led 26-20 with 7:19 to play in the third quarter before Howell and Craven connected on back-to-back drives for TDs. Complete Release
 
Michigan Tech 48, Midwestern State 27: Midwestern State could not overcome five turnovers and fell 48-27 to Michigan Tech at Kearly Stadium in Houghton, Mich. MT created 20 points off turnovers. MSU trailed 31-7 at halftime but climbed back to a 34-21 deficit with 14:55 to play. Kaden Brown threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns – one to Aanjay Feliciana for 78 yards. Fabian Baez caught eight passes for 63 yards. Nathanael Hall had eight tackles and Brycen Lewis had an interception for MSU. Complete Release

Colorado Mesa 42, Eastern New Mexico 23: Eastern New Mexico could not find the end zone in the second and third quarters and fell 42-23 to Colorado Mesa at Al Whitehead Field at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium in Portales, N.M. ENMU led 6-0 on a 46-yard touchdown pass from Clifton Cooper to Jose Trevino and then 9-7 on Clayton Vincent field goal. CM then built a 42-9 lead with 13:22 to play. Three ENMU quarterbacks combined to throw for 366 yards and Trei Kibbles caught four passes for 118 yards and a TD. Caleb Jefferson had an interception for ENMU. Complete Release
 
Saginaw Valley State 41, Texas A&M-Kingsville 24: Texas A&M-Kingsville could not hold on to an early lead and fell 41-24 to Saginaw Valley State 41-24 at Harvey R. Wickes Stadium in University Center, Mich. TAMUK led 10-6 with 6:14 left in the first quarter thanks to a 33-yard field goal by Daniel Gauna and a two-yard pass from Mills Dawson to Nate Barnett. SVS then built a 41-10 lead until the Javelinas found the end zone with 6:20 to play. Dawson finished 32-for-48 for 355 yards and two TDs. Travis Bielefeld had seven tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble for the Javelinas. Complete Release
 
Cal Poly 24, No. 6 Central Washington 17: No. 6 Central Washington fell just short to FCS opponent Cal Poly, 24-17, at Mustang Memorial Field at Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif. It was the season opener for CWU and first game for new head coach Scott Power. The Wildcats trailed 24-7 after three quarters but used a nine-yard touchdown pass from Justin Brennan to Mason Juergens and a 23-yard field goal by David Weber to create a one-possession game with 1:49 to play. CWU led 7-0 after the first quarter thanks to a one-yard run by Brennan.  Ryder Bumgardner ran for 99 yards and Juergens caught 10 passes for 114 yards. Omar Lazcano had 10 tackles and two tackles for loss for CWU. Complete Release
