LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 10

Angelo State and UAFS are both 15-1 in Lone Star Conference games with one week of regular season play left.

      The LSC Championship begins on Tuesday, Nov. 19 with the opening round on campus, then the final eight teams play at the No. 1 seed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 21-22-23.  Twelve teams will qualify for the LSC Championship with the top four teams from each of the three divisions earning bids.

      LSC volleyball teams are 245-216 overall this season.  The squads are currently 22-15 combined against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, the other league in the NCAA South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Kailyn Gilbreath, Angelo State, SO, Kinesiology, Right Side, Fort Worth, Texas, Boswell HS
Gilbreath had another phenomenal weekend on the road as ASU swept St. Edwards and St. Mary's this weekend. The redshirt sophomore powered the Belles offense as she registered 31 total kills, averaging 4.67 kills per set. Gilbreath led ASU's offense into the match against St. Edwards with 14 kills, one service ace, and two blocks in the sweep. Overall, she hit a .472 hitting percentage for the weekend and registered three digs. Gilbreath currently leads the conference in hitting percentage with a .419, is fourth in the conference in kills with 290, and is fifth in conference in points with 328.
 
DEFENSIVE
Shelley Chapron, Texas A&M-Commerce, SR, Public Health, Middle Blocker, Houston, Texas, St. Pius X HS
Chapron was a defensive menace for the Lions last week in their two four-set road wins, recording 13 blocks over two matches, thwarting multiple attacks from the opposition. Against WT, Chapron had seven blocks and was a factor in altering multiple Lady Buff attacks, as she led the Lion defense to hold WT to a .125 hitting percentage. Chapron was again effective against ENMU, recording six more blocks in the team's win. Chapron was a major component in holding the Greyhounds to a .139 percentage on the attack. Over the week, the Lion defense held hitters to .132 and Chapron averaged more than 1.6 blocks per set to go along with her impressive offensive performance.
 
SETTER
Meghan Parker, Angelo State, SR, Exercise Science, Setter, San Antonio, Texas, Johnson HS
Parker kept Angelo States 6-2 offense running like a well oiled machine. The senior setter from San Antonio registered 31 total assists against St. Edwards and St. Mary's, leading the Belle offense to a .293 hitting percentage for the weekend. Parker also had two service aces and 18 digs for the weekend. Parker helped ASU to a .363 hitting percentage and 14 assists in ASU's sweep of St. Mary's, and a .230 hitting percentage and 17 assists against St. Edwards.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
      Torrey Miller, West Texas A&M, continued to lead the powerful West Texas A&M offense this past weekend as the freshman led the Lady Buffs with 36 kills on 71 swings with eight attack errors to hit .394 with two aces, two blocks and 13 digs as WT moved to 19-5 overall to sit in second in their division. The Brownwood, Texas native registered 20 kills on Saturday afternoon during WT's final regular-season home match of the season as the freshman took 31 swings with just two attack errors to hit an impressive .581 during three sets to average 6.67 per frame for 23.0 points. Miller is making her case to become the LSC Freshman of the Year as she now leads the league in kills (367), kills per set (4.27), points (413.5) and points per set (4.81).
      Bria Augustine, Western New Mexico, continues to be a force for the Mustang offense, recording her fifth and sixth consecutive double-double over the weekend. In a tightly contested match with UAFS, the Bell Flower native tallied 15 kills and 11 digs. She followed up with 13 kills and 12 digs, hitting .478, in a three-set sweep over Cameron. She averaged 4.00 kills/set, with 2 service aces and 23 digs total on the weekend.
      Tatyana Tuialii-Umi, Tarleton State, led Tarleton to a 3-0 week and three sweeps with wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State, Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Texans have now won a season-best six matches in a row. Tuialii-Umi posted 36 kills (4.00 per set) and had a .303 hitting percentage. She also added 21 digs and had five blocks in the three matches. Tuialii-Umi had 5 kills against Southeastern and followed with a game-high 16 kills on a .480 hitting percentage in a sweep over TAMIU. She also had six digs and her 18 points were double of anyone on the team. Against TAMUK, Tuialii-Umi recorded a game-high 15 kills and added seven digs for match-best 16 points. She was the only player with more than eight kills in the match. For the week, Tuialii-Umi had 40 points in just nine sets for an average of 4.5 points per set.
      Shelley Chapron, Texas A&M-Commerce, was an offensive juggernaut for the Lions in their two road wins last week, hitting .417 out of the middle and averaging 14.5 kills per match. Against WT, Chapron had 12 kills and added four more points with her seven blocks. She then hit .500 with 17 kills against Eastern New Mexico.
      Quincy Strambley, UT Permian Basin, paced the Falcon offense this past week in matches against Cameron and UAFS. She had 13 kills in UTPB's come-from-behind victory at Cameron. Strambley came back a day later to shatter her personal kills record, recording 19 kills in a four-set match against the Lions while hitting .279 on the afternoon/
      Caroline Noel, Texas Woman's, playing with a completely new lineup because of injuries, TWU swept the home-and-home series with MSU this past week with Noel leading the offense with the most kills and the teams' best hitting efficiency in both games.
      Anna Demmer, UAFS, led the Lady Lions offensively to another 2-0 weekend against Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin. Demmer recorded 26 kills (3.25 per set) while also adding 37 digs. Demmer helped UAFS to a .215 hitting percentage.
      Emma Eakin, DBU, guided the Lady Patriots to a pair of wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International after totaling a team-high 25 kills. In DBU's three-set win over Texas A&M-Kingsville, Eakin totaled eight kills and also picked up two blocks.  On Saturday in five sets, Eakin registered a team-best 17 kills against the Dustdevils.
      Ashley Vanfleet, Lubbock Christian, led LCU with 25 kills on the week, with nine against St. Mary's and 16 against St. Edward's. She hit .375 at SEU and averaged 5.3 kills per set. Vnfleet also had a pace of 3.25 points per set.  LCU split a pair of matches in their final regular season road trip of the season, topping StMU in five for LCU's trio of consecutive 3-2 wins in program history, before falling at SEU.
      Alyssa Pevehouse, DBU, helped lead a Lady Patriots' defense that held Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International to a .106 hitting percentage last week.  In DBU's two wins, Pevehouse registered 43 digs and averaged 5.37 digs per set. 
      Gabi Lau , Western New Mexico, runs the back row for the Mustangs, helping her team to a 1-1 weekend on the road, including a straight set sweep over Cameron. In a four set math with UAFS, Lau registered 21 digs, along with two service aces, and five assists. Her 15 digs against Cameron put her at a an average of 5.14 digs/set on the weekend, for a total of 36 in seven sets played.
      Anna Demmer, UAFS, had another outstanding weekend on both ends of the floor helping the Lady Lions record two more wins in conference play. Demmer recorded 37 digs (4.625 per set) and 3 blocks over the course of the two games. Her defensive effort helped the Lady Lions hold their opponents to a .154 hitting percentage.
      Bailey French, Texas Woman's, a steady and consistent presence at libero, helped TWU sweep the home-and-home series with MSU this past week.
      Morgan Schwarz, Lubbock Christian, led LCU in the pair of matches with 8.0 blocks. She also produced 15 kills on the week. Against St. Mary's, she set a career-high mark in blocks with 8. All blocks were assisted blocks, which is a career-high for her and the highest block-assist total since a Lady Chaps member had eight on Oct. 27, 2018 (ironically also against StMU). LCU split a pair of matches in their final regular season road trip of the season, topping StMU in five for LCU's trio of consecutive 3-2 wins in program history, before falling at St. Edward's. 
      Lauren Kersey, Tarleton State, led Tarleton to a 3-0 week and three sweeps with wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State, Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Texans have now won a season-best six matches in a row. Kersey posted 25 kills on a .423 hitting percentage and added a team-leading 10 blocks. Kersey totaled 31.5 points in nine sets for 3.5 points per set. Against Southeastern, Kersey posted nine kills on a .643 hitting percentage and her six blocks led all players. The Norman, Oklahoma native followed with nine kills (.368 hitting) and helped hold TAMIU to a .161 hitting percentage. Against TAMUK, Kersey was equally effective with seven kills (.316) and held the Javelinas to a .009 hitting percentage in the sweep. For the week, opponents only hit .064 against Kersey and the Texans and had 70 attack errors in nine sets.
      Sophia Berg, Angelo State, played both sides of the ball well this weekend in ASU's sweeps against St. Edwards and St. Mary's. Berg registered two digs and seven blocks that held her opponents hitting percentage to a .106. Berg registered five kills and an assist as well.
      Gabby Emery, West Texas A&M, paced the West Texas A&M offense this past weekend as they fell to Texas A&M-Commerce in four sets before responding with a sweep of UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon during WT's final regular-season home match of the season on Senior Day to move to 19-5 overall. The Gilbert, Arizona native dished out 75 assists to average an incredible 10.71 per frame to go along with two aces, four kills, 15 digs and two blocks for 7.0 points. Emery registered a double-double on Friday night against the Lions with 34 assists and 10 digs followed by a career-high 41 assists on Saturday afternoon in a sweep of the Patriots.
      Kayla Brannon, Tarleton State, led Tarleton to a 3-0 week and three sweeps with wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State, Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Texans have now won a season-best six matches in a row. Brannon had 93 assists in just nine sets for 10.3 assists per set. She set the Texan attackers up to hit .265 for the week. Brannon had 29 assists and four digs against Southeastern, followed by 31 assists and four digs against TAMIU and 33 assists with nine digs against TAMUK. Brannon led all players in assists in each matched she played.
      Amanda Van Wyk, UAFS, led the Lady Lions to another 2-0 weekend with 79 assists (9.88 per set) while also adding 12 kills and only one hitting error. Van Wyk also played a huge role for the Lady Lions defense as she recorded 28 digs. Her setting helped UAFS to a .215 hitting percentage.
      Bradi Marshall, Lubbock Christian, became the 11th Lady Chap in LCU program history to surpass 2,000 career assists, collecting 68 on the way (win at St. Mary's and a loss at St. Edward's) to reach 2,044 in her career. She posted 39 assists and had four blocks at StMU and followed with 29 assists and a block at SEU.
      Celeste Vela, Texas A&M-Commerce, again led the Lion offense to a pair of efficient four-set road wins, averaging nearly seven assists per set over the week. Against WT, Vela had 28 assists while also adding eight kills and six digs. Vela then had 27 assists, helping the Lions hit .264 against the Greyhounds.
      Strealy Sizelove, DBU, totaled 53 assists, including a season-high 38 against Texas A&M International to lead the Lady Patriots to a 2-0 mark last week. Sizelove averaged 6.6 assists per match.
      Sarah Campoli, Western New Mexico, played a key role in the Mustangs offensive attack over the weekend. She had 22 and 24 assists against UAFS and Cameron, respectively, to mark the second and third straight games with over 20 assists. Campoli averaged 6.57 assists per set as the Mustangs hit .263.
      Katy Ranes, Texas Woman's, playing with a completely new lineup because of injuries, TWU swept the home-and-home series with MSU this past week with Ranes helping direct the attack as well as serving tough and adding a block assist.
