LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 2

The Lone Star Conference volleyball season has started with teams competing in non-conference contests.  DBU, Oklahoma Christian, and Texas A&M International lead the standings at 6-2 overall.

      This week, LSC teams will face each other in non-conference, in-region contests hosted by Angelo State, DBU, St. Edward’s and Texas Woman’s.

      LSC volleyball teams are 70-68 overall this season.  The squads are currently 12-14 combined against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, the other league in the NCAA Division II South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE

Torrey Miller, West Texas A&M, JR, Biology, OH, Brownwood, Texas, Brownwood HS

Miller led the nationally ranked Lady Buffs offense at a stacked Colorado Premier Classic with WT going 2-2 with victories against No. 11 Central Missouri and Regis.  Miller had double-digit kills in each game with 16 kills while hitting .382 versus UCM and 14 kills with a .262 hitting percentage against Regis.  The Brownwood, Texas native totaled 54 kills on the weekend and was fifth overall in kills per set (3.60).  She was one of 13 student-athletes to earn All-Tournament honors.

DEFENSIVE

Taytum Stow, West Texas A&M, FR, Business, MB, Hereford, Texas, Hereford HS

Stow has made an impact in her first season as the freshman has led the defense in blocks.  At the loaded Colorado Premier Classic, the Hereford, Texas product had 21 total blocks with four solo to average 1.40 a set which ranked third throughout the tournament.  Stow had a season-high eight blocks against No. 15 Wayne State which was the most by any Lady Buff this season while also earning All-Tournament honors.

SETTER

Lauryn Burt, DBU, SR, Masters in Leadership, Setter, Bakersfield, CA, Liberty HS

Burt keyed a Lady Patriots' offensive attack that compiled a .344 hitting percentage in DBU's four wins at the Steel City Showcase in Pueblo, Colorado, last weekend. Burt totaled 155 assist and averaged 11.92 assists per set as DBU won 12 of their 13 sets. Burt also registered five aces and totaled 21.0 points.
