Lone Star Conference men's and women's cross country claimed an individual medalist, a team runner-up, and Top 25 individual finishes the 2024 NCAA Division II Championships in Sacramento. Calif., on Saturday (Nov. 23).
West Texas A&M senior William Amponsah repeated as the Division II men's individual champion leading the 260 runners start to finish. Amponsah covered the soggy 10k course in 29:40.9. The senior was runner up at the Division II South Central Regional (31:17.0/10k) and won his second consecutive LSC individual title (23:16.28/8k) in races this fall.
The West Texas A&M women finished runner up in the Division II Championship standings (127 points) for its the best team showing at the national meet. The Lady Buffs used four Top 30 individual finishes in the 6k race -- Julie Lafare (17th/21:03.1), Naomi Addo (21st/21:07.4), Kalkidan Vincendeau (26th/21:09.2) and Eliette Chaput (30th/21:16.5) -- -plus Elise Leveel (45th/21:34.8) and Abigail Abugire (53rd/21:38.7) to post the program-best performance.
The West Texas A&M runners combined for a fourth-place finish in the men's championship team standings (138 points), matching their all-time best team showing in the Division II Championships. Along with Amponsah, two other WT runners claimed Top 10 finishes:
Harry Louradour (5th, 29:48.4) and
Adrian Legarreta (10, 29:55.3).
Enrico Oddone (70th, 31:02.9) and Matthys Bourse (76h, 31:06.2) completed the Buffs scoring runners.
DBU sophomore Lesli Salas competed as an individual, recording a 21:39.1 to finish 54th in her second Division II Women's Cross Country Championship appearance.
