UT Permian Basin junior quarterback Kanon Gibson was involved in all four touchdowns as the No. 9-ranked Falcons won a top-10 showdown between unbeaten teams 28-14 on the road against No. 5 Angelo State. Gibson, who has now won the LSC’s top weekly offensive award for the second time this season, ran for three scores and threw for another. He totaled 39 rushing yards and threw for 289 – 118 in the fourth quarter with the score 21-14. His three rushing TDs all came in the first half as the Falcons built a 21-7 lead at halftime.

DEFENSIVE
Malik Ross, Western Oregon, S, Jr., Exercise Science, Tualatin, Ore.
Western Oregon junior safety Malik Ross retuned an interception for a touchdown, recorded a sack and forced a fumble that was recovered to fuel a 41-20 win over Western New Mexico. Ross also had four tackles – two solo and 1.5 for a loss. He took his INT back 59 yards for a score with 6:06 left in the second quarter after WNMU made it a 20-13 game. The fumble he forced came in the first quarter and was returned to the 4-yard line. WOU scored on the next play to go up 13-6. Ross’ play helped the Wolves hold the Mustangs to their lowest point total of the season.

With the scored tied 24-24 and 2:18 left to play, Midwestern State freshman Cedonyae Lott returned a punt 69-yards for a touchdown to complete the Mustangs’ 31-24 come-from-behind win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
