All 17 Lone Star Conference men’s basketball teams have gotten their season underway. Of those, six are still unbeaten: St. Edward’s (8-0), No. 25 Lubbock Christian (6-0), West Texas A&M (5-0), St. Mary’s (4-0), Oklahoma Christian (2-0) and UT Tyler (2-0).
 
Eastern New Mexico has won three games in a row, while Sul Ross State and Western New Mexico have prevailed in back-to-back games.
 
It will be an action-packed week of LSC hoops as 30 games are schedule between Monday and Saturday (excluding Thursday because of Thanksgiving).
 
No. 3 DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the preseason poll. StMU senior guard Damani Claxton was voted preseason player of the year.
 
The LSC men’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 5, 7-8 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in February.
 
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, new league member UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Amondo Miller Jr., Lubbock Christian, G/F, Sr., Communications, Littleton, Colo.
Lubbock Christian senior guard/forward Amondo Miller Jr. averaged 28 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and 2.5 steals to fuel wins away from home over Colorado Mesa and Fort Lewis. Miller Jr., who wins the league’s top weekly award for the second time this season, shot 51.4 percent from the field and hit 12 of 19 three-point attempts. He made all but one of his seven free-throw attempt. Miller Jr., who also added three blocks, had a double double and five assists in each game. His play helped keep the No. 25-ranked Chaps unbeaten on the season at 6-0.
 
DEFENSIVE
Camren Roper, Sul Ross State, G, Jr., Communication, Cibolo, Texas
Sul Ross State junior guard Camren Roper pulled down 15 defensive rebounds and added three steals to help the Lobos record wins over previously unbeaten Angelo State and UT Permian Basin. Roper and company allowed an average of just 54 points and a 36.6 shooting percentage over the two games. Roper, who also added 4.5 points and four assists per game, averaged 8.5 rebounds. It was the Lobos’ first win in program history over ASU and first victory against UTPB since 2010. Roper is second in the LSC with 3.3 steals per game.
