Only three weekends remain in the Lone Star Conference baseball regular season.
Angelo State (31-7 overall, 29-7 LSC) has a one-game lead in the standings over UT Tyler (28-9, 28-8 LSC). The Rams, who took three games from fellow nationally-ranked St. Edward’s last weekend, are the No. 1 ranked team in the country in two of the three national polls. UT Tyler had a weekend bye.
SEU (28-14, 27-13 LSC), West Texas A&M (26-12, 24-12 LSC), Eastern New Mexico (24-14, 22-14 LSC), Lubbock Christian (23-15, 22-14 LSC) and St. Mary’s (23-15, 21-15 LSC) round out what would be the seven teams to qualify for the LSC tournament. Texas A&M-Kingsville (23-19, 22-18 LSC) is just three games out of the seventh spot.
ASU is leading the conference in hitting (.373) and fielding (.975), while UT Tyler leads in pitching (3.73 ERA). LCU has hit a league-high 58 home run, led by McCool’s 22. In addition to homers, McCool is leading the LSC in RBI (60), slugging percentage (1.014) and OPS (1.544). UT Tyler’s Drew Schmidt owns the league’s top batting average at .430. UT Permian Basin’s Kaleb Scull has 21 doubles and ENMU’s Kyle Kiernan has five triples. SEU’s Travis Chestnut has 31 stolen bases.
ASU’s Dax Dathe (6-1) and Nick Wilson (6-0) , and SEU’s Kobe Jaramillo (6-1) all have six wins to lead the league. Jaramillo has an LSC-best 75 strikeouts. UT Tyler’s Rawley Hector (5-1) has the LSC’s top ERA (2.34) over 50 innings of work. SEU’s Parker Tennill has 10 saves to also lead the conference.
Four players from the LSC have won national player of the week honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association – three hitters and one pitcher. WT senior first baseman

Lance Barnett (Feb. 6) have won the hitting award, while LCU senior left-hander
Ryan Markwardt (Feb. 20) was honored for pitching.
McCool became
the LSC’s all-time home run leader his 48th blast on March 23 against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas. He broke the mark of 47 set by West Texas A&M’s Ben Hangartner from 1999-2002.
Two
LSC single-game records have been broken this season as Fesperman
had 13 RBI on Feb. 28 and McCool

ASU was the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll. ASU graduate student and outfielder Jacob Guerrero and Hector were named
LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
The LSC Baseball Championship will feature a two-week tournament. The opening round is best-of-three series and will be held May 2-4 at the sites of the No. 2 (vs. No. 7), 3 (vs. 6) and 4 (vs. 5) seeds. The league’s top seed from the regular season will receive an opening-round bye and host the double-elimination championship round on May 8-10. The LSC Tournament Champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.

HITTER
Carson Johnson, UT Permian Basin, INF, Sr., Marketing, Carl Junction, Mo.
UT Permian Basin senior infielder Carson Johnson hit. 571 with two home runs, four doubles and 11 RBI over a conference road sweep of Sul Ross State. Johnson also scored 13 runs – including at least two in each game – and walked six times (once intentionally). His on-base percentage was .700 and he struck out just once. Johnson homered and doubled to lead a 15-14 extra-inning win in Game 3 to secure the series. He played errorless defense with time at third base, second base and first base.
PITCHER
Tyler Schumann, Texas A&M-Kingsville, RHP, Fr., Wildlife Studies, Fulshear, Texas
Texas A&M-Kingsville freshman right-hander Tyler Schumann tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout on the road against Texas A&M International. Schumann struck out three batters, issued just one walk and needed only 88 pitches to complete his gem. Both of the hits he allowed were singles. Schumann’s performance in the 2-0 ballgame helped the Javelinas secure the conference series victory.
