Lone Star Conference men’s soccer league matches begin Wednesday (Oct. 1). Heading into conference play, Midwestern State (4-1-3) and new league member UT Dallas (4-3-1) have the most wins. MSU and Oklahoma Christian (3-2-1) have won two matches in a row. Sul Ross State (3-2-2) has not lost in five matches.
 
MSU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the preseason poll. St. Edward’s Arthur Souza and St. Mary’s teammates Luke Mulkey and Johnny Thurbin were voted preseason players of the year.
 
The LSC men's soccer tournament will be comprised of the top six teams and is scheduled for Nov. 8 (quarterfinals), Nov. 12 (semifinals) and Nov. 15 (final). The quarterfinals will be held on campus of the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds; the semifinals are hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seed; and title match will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE MEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Parker Plaxco, Midwestern State, F, Jr., Education, Stephenville, Texas
Midwestern State junior forward Parker Plaxco set a program record with four goals – all in the second half – to lead the Mustangs’ 4-2 comeback victory over Northwest Nazarene. He also added an assist in MSU’s 2-0 win over Western Oregon, which is receiving votes in the national poll. With the Mustangs trailing 2-0, Plaxco netted his first goal in the 56th minute and just 37 seconds later tied the game. He completed his hat trick in just seven minutes and seven seconds to give MSU a lead it would not relinquish. Plaxco’s final goal came in the 88th minute. He is the second player in NCAA Division II with four goals in a single game this season and the first to do it in the LSC since 2023.
 
DEFENSIVE
Miguel Achique, Sul Ross State, D, Jr., Business Administration, Barcelona, Venezuela
Sul Ross State junior defender Miguel Achique fueled a unit that shut out Lubbock Christian on the road and also scored the lone goal of the match. Achique’s game-winner came on a penalty kick in the 60th minute. His play has helped the Lobos to a five-match unbeaten streak where they have allowed just two goals.
 
GOALKEEPER
Jake Morris, Midwestern State, GK, So., Business Analytics, Parker, Colo.
Midwestern State sophomore goalkeeper Jake Morris had a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Western Oregon. Morris made a career-best six saves against the Wolves, who had nine shots and are receiving votes in the national poll. He played all 90 minutes.
