Two weeks of Lone Star Conference women’s soccer league matches are complete. No. 4 DBU (8-0 overall, 4-0 LSC), Texas Woman’s (7-0-1, 3-0-1 LSC) and Midwestern State (2-14, 2-0-2 LSC) are all unbeaten. After a 1-1 start, new league member UT Dallas (6-1-1, 3-1 LSC) has won back-to-back matches.
Conference play resumes on Wednesday (Oct. 1) with six games. St. Mary’s and West Texas A&M play on Thursday (Oct. 2) and seven more matches are Saturday (Oct. 4).
DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the
preseason poll. St. Edward’s Annie Rocha, DBU’s Parker Coe and TWU’s Amanda Farris were voted
preseason players of the year.
The LSC women's soccer tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for Nov. 7 (first round), Nov. 10 (quarterfinals), Nov. 13 (semifinals) and Nov. 16 (final). The first round and quarterfinal matches are played at the site of the higher seed. The semifinals and final rounds are hosted by the No. 1 seed.

OFFENSIVE
Giselle Gutierrez, Texas Woman’s, F, Jr., Accounting, Plano, Texas
Texas Woman’s junior forward Giselle Gutierrez scored three goals across two conference matches against St. Mary’s and Midwestern State. Gutierrez had both goals in a 2-0 road match with St. Mary’s. She then delivered the equalizer in a 2-2 match with MSU to preserve the Pioneers’ unbeaten record on the season at 7-0-1. She took five shots on the goal over the two matches.
DEFENSIVE
Kenzi Tufts, DBU, D, So., Biology Pre-Med, Southlake, Texas
DBU sophomore Kenzi Tufts anchored a back line that posted shutouts – their fifth straight – in wins against UT Tyler and Eastern New Mexico. Tufts also netted a pair of goals for the No. 4-ranked Patriots against ENMU. Tufts and company held UT Tyler to six shots in a 2-0 win that featured two unbeaten teams. It was the first time UT Tyler had been shut out this season.
GOALKEEPER
McKenzie Hunninghake, UT Dallas, GK, Sr., Marketing, Leander, Texas
UT Dallas senior goalkeeper McKenzie Hunninghake did not allow a goal over two league matches with six saves to fuel a 2-0 week against Eastern New Mexico and UT Permian Basin. Hunninghake posted her third shutout of the year in a 1-0 match against UTPB. She played 81 scoreless minutes with three saves against ENMU. Her play has helped new league member UTD to a 3-1 start to conference play.
