The Lone Star Conference men’s basketball regular season is complete, and for the second straight year, DBU is the regular season champion. The Patriots (24-6 overall) finished the conference slate on a nine-game winning streak and an 18-2 mark. No. 23-ranked DBU enters the
LSC tournament as the top seed.
Joining DBU at the
LSC tournament at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas is No. 12 Eastern New Mexico, No. 9 Lubbock Christian, Western New Mexico, St. Mary’s, St. Edward’s, West Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Action begins Thursday (March 5). Tickets are now
on sale.
LCU’s Amondo Miller Jr. finished as the regular season scoring champion at 21.1 points per game. Other category leaders were LCU’s Antonio Pusateri (10.8 rebounds per game), UT Dallas’ Peyton Dulin and SEU’s Blake Nielsen (4.5 assists per game), ENMU’s Jose Murillo (1.9 blocks per game) and ENMU’s Cooper Jackson (3 steals per game).
In non-conference play, LSC teams went 40-24 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams.
Murillo was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II Conference Information Directors of America
National Player of the Week on Dec. 2.
The LSC All-Conference and All-Academic awards will be announced live at the LSC Basketball Championships Banquet on Wednesday evening (March 4) in Frisco, Texas. They will also be posted on the conference website.

Lubbock Christian senior forward Amondo Miller Jr. averaged 28 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to lead the No. 9-ranked Chaps to an unbeaten week against Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State. Amondo Miller Jr., who wins the league’s top weekly offensive award for the third time this season, scored a career-high 38 points on 58.3 percent shooting in an 87-83 game with WNMU. His point total is the most by a player in the LSC this season – topping his 37-point performance in November. Amondo Miller Jr. also had three blocks and three steals.
DEFENSIVE
Sam Phipps, UT Tyler, F, Sr., Information Technology, Wellsville, Utah
UT Tyler senior forward Sam Phipps averaged 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots to go along with 10.5 points per game to fuel an unbeaten week against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. Phipps had a 15-point, 14-rebound double double with three blocks and two steals on his senior night against TAMIU. Phipps and company allowed just 38.7 percent shooting over the two games and held TAMUK to 55 points. Phipps, who added three assists and shot 83.3 percent, helped the Patriots close out the season with three straight wins and five victories over their last six contests.
