Lone Star Conference men’s soccer play begins this week, with five matches on Wednesday (Sept. 23).
 
Defending NCAA Division II national champion Midwestern State (6-0-2) is still unbeaten. The Mustangs have a four-match winning streak, while UT Dallas (6-1-1) has won five in a row.
 
MSU is scoring a league-high three goals per match, while DBU is allowing a league-best .86 goals per game.
 
St. Mary’s sophomore forward Eduardo Ferndnez was named the DCSIDA National Player of the Week on Sept. 15. Fernandez is the first player in program history to win the honor.
 
MSU was voted the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the preseason poll. MSU’s Parker Plaxco, Davis Mays and Jake Morris were voted preseason players of the year.
 
The LSC men's soccer tournament will be comprised of the top six teams and is scheduled for Oct. 30 (quarterfinals), Nov. 4 (semifinals) and Nov. 7 (final). The quarterfinals will be held on campus of the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds; the semifinals are hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seed; and title match will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
 
All LSC men’s soccer teams are eligible to win the regular season title and advance to the LSC and NCAA Division II postseason tournaments.
 
Longtime MSU head coach Doug Elder was recently named to the LSC Hall of Honor.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE MEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Parker Plaxco, Midwestern State, F, Sr., Sport, Coaching, Leadership and Administration, Stephenville, Texas
Midwestern State senior forward Parker Plaxco scored a goal in each match to spark to road victories and keep the No. 6-ranked Mustangs unbeaten on the season. Plaxco scored the only goal against Western Oregon then scored the first goal against Simon Fraser. Those were the only two shots on goal he took. Plaxco has scored in three straight matches with two game-winners.
 
DEFENSIVE
Cason Berg, DBU, D, Sr., Management, Prosper, Texas
DBU senior defender Cason Berg led a backline against two nationally-ranked opponents, including a win over No. 24 Western Washington. Berg played all 180 minutes in the matches against Western Washington and No. 11 Seattle Pacific. Berg and company held Western Washington to just one goal – in the first half – to secure the first ever home win (2-1) over a ranked opponent. DBU has not allowed more than one goal in a match all season.
 
GOALKEEPER
Jake Morris, Midwestern State, GK, Jr., Business Analytics and Information Systems, Parker, Colo.
Midwestern State goalkeeper Jake Morris had one shutout and six saves over a 2-0 week on the road. Morris played all 180 minutes in goal to help keeper the No. 6-ranked Mustangs unbeaten. He had a clean sheet with three saves against Western Oregon and allowed just one goal in a match with Simon Fraser.
