Lone Star Conference volleyball league play is underway, and five teams have started 2-0: No. 6 Angelo State, DBU, Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Dallas.
Conference play resumes this week with 18 matches over Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
Angelo State leads the league in hitting percentage (.250), assists (12.32 per set) and kills (13.60 per set). Western New Mexico is tops in the LSC in blocks (2.44 per set), UT Tyler is leading in service aces (2.19 per set) and Texas A&M-Kingsville is on top in digs (18.02 per set).
UT Tyler senior outside hitter Melanie Merrill was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s first
national player of the week of the 2026 season on Sept. 1. She is just the second player in program history to win the honor, joining Mikayla Ware (2021).
ASU is the favorite to win the LSC regular season title this season, according the
preseason poll. ASU’s Madi Parrish, Texas Woman’s Alyssa Rojo and Lubbock Christian’s Camdyn Sears were voted
preseason players of the year.
The LSC volleyball tournament will feature the top nine teams and is set for Nov. 11-14 at the site of the No. 1 seed.
All LSC volleyball teams are eligible to win the regular season title and advance to the LSC and NCAA Division II postseason tournaments.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Laurene Robinson, St. Mary’s, RS, Gr., Cyber. Security, Bedford, Texas
St. Mary’s graduate student and right-side hitter Laurene Robinson hit .414 with 41 kills over conference matches against No. 6 Angelo State and UT Permian Basin. Robinson, who wins the league’s top weekly offensive award for the second consecutive week, hit .489 with 26 kills in a five-set match with ASU. She added 17 digs, seven blocks, five assists and two service aces over the two matches. Robinson has had double-digit kills in all 12 matches this season and has gone over 20 five different times.
DEFENSIVE & FRESHMAN
Avery Gray, UT Dallas, L, Fr., Criminology, Lucas, Texas
UT Dallas freshman libero Avery Gray averaged six digs per set to fuel the Comets’ 2-0 start to conference play on the road against Oklahoma Christian and Cameron. Gray’s 32 digs against Cameron are the most in a four-set match in the league this season. She also added three service aces and three assists. Gray led a unit that allowed only a .154 hitting percentage.
SETTER
Zoe Gunn, DBU, S, Jr., Communication, Istanbul, Turkey
DBU junior setter Zoe Gunn averaged 5.63 assists per set to facilitate an offense that hit .290 over conference wins against Texas A&M International and Texas Woman’s. Gunn had 27 assists in a five-set match at TAMIU and a match-high 18 in a sweep of TWU. She added 14 digs, two service aces and one kill. Gunn has had at least one ace in the Patriots’ last six matches – all wins.
