The Lone Star Conference football season is two weeks in and all 10 of the league’s teams have played at least one game.
 
No. 17 Western Oregon improved to 2-0 and Sul Ross State won its first game of the season during Week 1. Only UT Permian Basin was idle. To read the recaps, click here.
 
Week 3 will feature only three teams in action with two games on Saturday, Sept. 13. No. 6 Central Washington will host No. 1 Ferris State, while UTPB will host Western New Mexico in the conference opener for both teams.
 
CWU was picked as the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according to the league’s preseason poll. WOU senior quarterback Jordan McCarty and CWU senior linebacker Brycen Indell were predicted to win preseason player of the year honors.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Will Howell, Sul Ross State, QB, Fr., Kinesiology, Tucson, Zriz.
Sul Ross State freshman quarterback Will Howell passed for five touchdowns and ran for another score to help the Lobos top Adams State, 53-26, and snap a 14-game losing streak. Howell was 24-for-39 for 423 yards passing with no interceptions. He ran for 31 yards on 10 carries. Howell had three passing TDs in the second quarter alone and fueled a unit that totaled 656 yards of total offense, which ranks No. 5 in the Lobos’ NCAA program history.
 
DEFENSIVE
LJ Imo, Western Oregon, DE, Sr., Exercise Science, Waipahu, Hawaii
Western Oregon senior defensive end LJ Imo had five tackles – 2.5 for a loss of 17 yards – two sacks and one interception to help lead the No. 17-ranked Wolves to a 65-35 road win over Southern Oregon. Imo also had a pass break-up. His interception came in the first quarter and set up a touchdown that helped WOU take a 14-0 lead.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS
Ashton Wolff, Western Oregon, K, Sr., Business, Marysville, Wash.
Western Oregon senior kicker Ashton Wolff was a perfect 8-for-8 on extra points and also made a 23-yard field goal to help lead the No. 17-ranked Wolves to a 65-35 road win over Southern Oregon. Wolff also handled kickoff duties, booting six of 11 for touchbacks. His 11 points also helped WOU break the record for most points scored by an opponent at Raider Stadium.
