Cross Country Teams Ready to Race for LSC Titles

2023 LSC Cross Country Championships Central

The stage is set for a competitive set of championship races as the 2023 LSC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships go live on Saturday, October 21, on the Eastern New Mexico University campus in Portales, N.M. Thirteen men's and 15 women's teams are scheduled to compete for the LSC titles.
 
Championship Day activities begin with the opening ceremony at 9:25 a.m. MT (10:25 a.m. CT). Women's and men's awards presentations follow the races and will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. MT (12:30 p.m. CT).
 
Select cross country championship events, including the awards ceremony, will be live streamed without charge on the LSC Digital Network. Feeds are accessible online (www.lonestarconferencenetwork.com) and via the LSC Digital Network OTT app on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices.
 
Live results for both races will be available during the event with final published results posted to the LSC page on TFFRS following the championships.
 
Women's Championship (6k)

Defending team champion Dallas Baptist and runner-up West Texas A&M head the 15 teams competing in the 39th women's LSC Cross Country Championships.
 
A tightly contested race is expected with both West Texas A&M (No. 12/No. 6 SC Region) and DBU (No. 23/No. 7 SC Region) ranking among the Top 25 in the Division II USTFCCCA poll and list back-to-back in the South Central Region ranking. Texas A&M-Kingsville spent much of the season No. 10 in the South Central Region list.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville sophomore Ivanova Yanes ran a winning 20:54.0 at the OLLU Saints' Classic (Oct. 7) which currently ranks as the best 6k time in the LSC and South Central Region and is fourth-fastest 6k in Division II. Three additional runners have posted sub 22-minute times this season: Beverlyne Kipchumba (Texas A&M International), 21:42.8; Maya Espinosa (Texas A&M-Kingsville), 21:48.8; and Sarah Koomson (West Texas A&M), 21:50.0.
 
Midwestern State and Angelo State each have seven women's championships with DBU (3), West Texas A&M (2), Lubbock Christian (1) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (1) current members who have won LSC titles.

West Texas A&M puts its streak of 10 consecutive league titles on the line in the 41st men's LSC Cross Country Championships and faces challenges from 2022 runner-up Dallas Baptist, Oklahoma Christian and UT Tyler – three teams who have been ranked among the South Central Region Top 10 during the 2023 season. Thirteen teams compete in the men's championship.
 
West Texas A&M comes into the 2023 championships ranked No. 6 in the Division II USTFCCCA national poll and No. 4 among South Central Region teams. DBU finished runner-up to WT last season and comes into the LSC meet listing No. 10 in the South Central Region.
 
Harry Louradour returns to defend his 2022 individual title. Last season's LSC Runner of the Year, the West Texas A&M junior ran 24:11.51 in the LSC meet, the fastest winning time posted in the LSC championship since 2010.
 
West Texas A&M junior William Amponsah has the fastest 8k time in NCAA Division II and the South Central Region. The junior ran a 23:08.6 time in winning the Live at Lou Gold race (Sept. 30). He is one of four Buffs atop the LSC 2023 top 8k times list: Enrico Oddone (24:09.0), Aziz Mohamed (24:28.4) and Louis Moreau (24:28.8).
 
Eastern New Mexico (2), Texas A&M-Kingsville (2) and West Texas A&M are current LSC members who have won men's cross country titles.
