Of the 17 Lone Star Conference women’s basketball teams, two are still unbeaten: Lubbock Christian (7-0) and St. Mary’s (5-0).
As far as other winning streaks, West Texas A&M (6-1) has won six in a row, Texas Woman’s (5-1) has won four straight and St. Edward’s (4-2) has prevailed in three consecutive contests. UT Tyler (4-3) and new league member UT Dallas (2-3) have won back-to-back games.
The LSC has three teams ranked in the top 15 of the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top 25 Poll: LCU (6), TWU (8) and WT (13). UTT is receiving votes.
Conference games begin this week with two games on Wednesday, six on Thursday, one on Friday and seven on Saturday.
TWU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the
preseason poll. WT senior guard Kyla Kane was voted
preseason player of the year.
The LSC women’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 6-8 at
Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in February.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UTD and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

St. Edward’s junior guard Suni Davis averaged 22.5 points, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists over two wins against Colorado Christian and Western Colorado. Davis scored a combined 21 points in the fourth quarter and was 20-for-20 from the free throw line. She also added five defensive rebounds and made three 3-pointers. In a 63-60 comeback win over Colorado Christian, Davis scored nine points over the final 6:35 and made all four of her free throws in the final minute to tie the game at 60 and create the final result. On the season, Davis is 37-for-37 from the charity stripe.
DEFENSIVE
Raynne Malik, St. Mary’s, F, So., Biology, London, Ontario, Canada
St. Mary’s sophomore forward Raynne Malik pulled down 16 defensive rebounds and blocked seven shots over a pair of wins against Washburn and Oklahoma Baptist. Malik, who averaged 9.5 rebounds overall, also had two steals to keep the Rattlers unbeaten at 5-0 – their best start since the 1997-98 season. Malik, who wins the league’s top weekly defensive award for the second time this year, held the second-leading scorer in all of NCAA Division II from OBU to just eight points in the 50-44 victory. Malik added six points per game and fueled a unit that allowed just 27.4 percent shooting over the two contests.
