Men's Notables
Two teams are on the courses starting Monday (March 11) in what is a light week for the Lone Star Conference. Lubbock Christian hosts the Top of Texas Invitational at Lakeridge Country Club in Lubbock and Western New Mexico travels to Alameda, Calif., for the Time Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay.
LSC squads finished three-four-five at the 54-hole Hardscrabble Invitational hosted by UAFS (March 3-4). West Texas A&M led the league teams, carding an 878 (286-307-285), with host UAFS fourth at 891 (295-306-290) and Lubbock Christian in fifth with a 900 (299-303-298). UAFS' Andrew Fakult tied for second among the individuals (71-74-69—214). ... Oklahoma Christian and DBU tied for second at the Las Vegas Desert Classic (March 3-4-5). OC carded rounds of 283-286-275—844 and DBU posted rounds of 286-284-274—844. Oskari Nikku of OC tied for second with a three-day 72-66-66—204.

Women's Notables
LSC women's teams compete from coast-to-coast this week (March 10-15). St. Mary's, UAFS and UT Permian Basin are in Destin, Fla., for the Emerald Coast College starting Sunday. Beginning Monday, Lubbock Christian hosts the Top of Texas Invitational and is joined by Angelo State while UT Tyler is in Vista, Calif., for the CSUSM Fujikara Invitational; Texas A&M-Kingsville plays the HCU Husky Invitational in Sugar Land, Texas; and Cameron is in Owasso, Okla., for the Hillcat Classic. ... On Thursday, DBU plays in the Spring Fling Invitational at Palm Desert, Calif.
LSC women's teams were scattered among three tournaments last week (March 4-5). Western New Mexico finished in a tie for first place (298-301-599) but lost the scorecard playoff to Missouri Western State in the SMSU Spring Invitational played in Litchfield Park, Ariz. Brooklyn Mesa carded a 72-75-147 to finish in a first-place tie but dropped the scorecard playoff for the medalist title. ... Behind the play of individual winner Sofia Benavides, Oklahoma Christian posted a 599 (294-305) for a runner-up showing at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational. Benavides shot a two-over 142 in the two rounds. ... Texas A&M International (8th) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (11th) competed in the Vaquero Invite at McAllen, Texas. TAMIU's Bailey Anderson finished in a four-way tie at 10th (67-73-74-214).

Oklahoma Christian junior Oskari Nikku finished tied for second place at the Las Vegas Desert Classic with incredible back-to-back rounds of 66 to finish the tournament 12-under-par. Nikku carded a 72-66-66--204 to lead the Eagles in a final-day push and a second-place tie finish in the team standings.
WOMEN
Sofia Benavides, Oklahoma Christian, Jr., Communications, Monterrey, Mexico
Sofia Benavides shot a two-over 142 (69-73) to win the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational. The junior carded a tournament-best nine birdies in leading the Eagles to second in the tournament.
