With five weeks remaining in the regular season, only one Lone Star Conference football team is unbeaten in league play: No. 13 Central Washington (5-1, 5-0 LSC).
CWU went on the road to top No. 6 UT Permian Basin (5-1, 3-1 LSC) in a battle of LSC teams without a conference loss. Also in Week 6, Texas A&M-Kingsville beat No. 12 Angelo State for the first time since 2014. Midwestern State and Western Oregon also recorded league wins. Week 7 will feature all 10 teams in action with five conference matchups – all on Saturday.
WT is leading the league in total offense at 485 yards per game, followed by WNMU (452.8) and TAMUK (451.2). CWU is scoring a league-high 47.7 points per game.
UTPB has the conference’s top-rated defense, allowing just 309.8 yards per game. CWU is next at 344.7 yards per game then WT (348.5). Opponents are scoring just 17.8 points per game against UTPB, which leads the league.
UTPB is the least penalized team in the league, averaging just 40.3 yards per game. CWU is next at 47.8.
The LSC has had three D2Football.com national player of the week selections this season. UTPB junior linebacker Tristan Exline was named
National Defensive Player of the Week after the first week of the year, while CWU sophomore kick returner
Beau Philllips (Sept. 30) and MSU freshman punt returner
Cedonyae Lott (Oct. 7) earned the title of National Special Teams Player of the Week.
ASU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according to the
preseason poll. Exline and ASU quarterback Braeden Fuller were voted
preseason players of the year.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Edward Chumley, Texas A&M-Kingsville, RB, Fr., Kinesiology, Anna, Texas
Texas A&M-Kingsville freshman running back Edward Chumley ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns – including a 27-yard scamper in the fourth quarter – to help fuel a 24-19 upset win over No. 13 Angelo State. Chumley toted the ball 28 times and also scored in the first quarter to give TAMUK its first lead. He also caught three passes to help the Javelinas defeat the Rams for the first time since 2012. Chumley’s 150 yards is the third-highest total in the conference this season and most by a TAMUK true freshman in a decade.
DEFENSIVE
Javonte Walker, Central Washington, DB, So., Business, Lacey, Wash.
With a 20-14 lead and under a minute to play, Central Washington sophomore defensive back Javonte Walker came up with an interception and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown to seal a 27-14 road win for the No. 13-ranked Wildcats against No. 6 and previously unbeaten UT Permian Basin. Walker also had three tackles and a pass break-up to help CWU take over sole possession of first place in the LSC standings. Walker and company limited the Falcons to 300 of offense and kept them off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Cedonyae Lott, Midwestern State, PR/KR, Fr. Criminal Justice, Dallas, Texas
For the second consecutive week, Midwestern State freshman Cedonyae Lott returned a punt for a touchdown. Lott, who also wins the conference’s top weekly special teams award for the second straight week, ran back a third-quarter punt 58 yards and totaled 224 all-purpose yards to help the Mustangs to a 69-23 road win over Sul Ross State. Lott totaled 83 yards on punt returns, 82 on kickoff returns and 59 playing wide receiver. He caught two TD passes – one for 38 yards and the other for 21 – giving him three scores to lead MSU to it second victory in a row. Lott is the first player in the LSC this season to have two punts returned for a TD.
